Walking the streets of Alta at the top of Norway

I walked around the world's northernmost town, Alta, Norway, on a sunny September morning. In this video, I visit the famous Northern Lights Cathedral (shaped like the northern lights themselves), stroll around the small downtown and public square area (the "world's northernmost record store" was closed, unfortunately), and then hike out to the edge of town to see Alta Church. There, I find a stunning cemetery, full of golden yellow leaves in the sparkling sunshine, big shady trees, endless rows of gravestones, and some intriguing inscriptions. I was lucky to see Alta at such a great time – what a sensational vibe this far-flung outpost in deepest Finnmark has!

Interesting to see Alta from a camera POV. I guess many of us take our homeplace, every building, monument and everything else for granted most of the time. I'd wanna visit if i didnt live here.
Alta kirke (the second church you visited) was built in 1858. Its one of the few buildings that didnt get burnt to the ground during ww2. It did take some abuse but was back in use christmas 45'.

What an incredible weather you had, the best there is in autumn. I don´t know if the Norwegians have a word for the time of the year when forests, mountains and fjords turn to red and yellow, in Finnish it´s called "Ruska".

I was in Alta about one week before this Easter. There had just been awful snow storms and avalanches with four persons dead.

Trees are beautiful the landscape is beautiful p I have seen the Northern lights not from Norway but up an Alaskan Canada and they are spectacular hope you get to enjoy that keep up the great work your videos are great

Alta was once called one of the ugliest cities in Norway... because it was built in a sort of compromise location, it was a lot more car-oriented than most Norwegian cities. It still has very broad streets. But I think they must have made it a lot more walkable since then. Today it's certainly a place one would be happy to live (and the real estate prices suggest so too, compared to the rest of Finnmark!).
