LA Beaches are Beautiful but I would not trade any Florida Beach for a California Beach, Water there is too Cold 🥶

1:42 could it be because of a high tide?

Go back during the summer months, the beach will be there. The Ocean cycles the sand in and out. In the Summer about 4’ of sand will be back up there covering all of those rocks.

Looks like a drab beach, starting with the expensive and not at all picturesque parking area. Make your way to Monterey and Carmel-by-the-sea.

Could almost see Jim Rockford's trailer in the parking lot.

I went there 3 months ago and the parking is crazy.

It’s the dream of so many to live at the beach, but climate change and growing population combined with the fact that they aren’t making new land means it’s becoming extremely expensive to find that slice of paradise. Not just in the cost of real estate but also the cost of insurance and maintenance against the ravages of salt air and water.

When I lived in Boca Raton, on the mainland side of the intracoastal in a condo right on the intracoastal and side canals, I came to a valuable realization. And that is, it’s maybe better to live near the beaches (plural) than to spend a lot more and live right on a beach (singular). And the reason is that you pay a huge premium to be on the beach and…. It’s only one beach. In Florida, as anywhere, there’s a lot of variety in the character and vibe of the many beaches. Where I lived it was 1 mile to the Spanish River bridge, and once I pedaled across that I could go north or south to a number of different beaches. Some more natural and secluded (Ocean Ridge to the north), some with cool beach restaurant and bar vibes (Deerfield beach to the south or Delray to the north), some with volleyball and surfers and kite surfers, some with long fishing piers. If you spend all your gold to be on one beach you might become bored with that beach, and too house poor that you can no longer afford to travel to other beaches or vacation destinations. And then there’s the risk that your chosen beach changes over the years to something less than it was when you first arrived (as Michael is seeing in this video). Nope, better to live back a bit, for less money, so that you’ll be forced to get out and explore, and you’ll have remaining discretionary spending budget to do so.

Yo. Mike. Back in the early 80's I rented several houses up there in the Malibu hills -- affordable rent and the beach was just minutes away. Check it out up there. Go up Topanga Canyon and eat at the Inn of the Seventh Ray. Or eat at Gladstones 4 Fish on PCH.. I was born in Canoga Park on the other side of the hills.

I will always and forever prefer the beaches in Orange County and San Diego County. As a person born and raised in SoCal, I always felt like they didn't take care of the beaches in LA County. Everyone from out of state goes to mostly LA County Beaches though because they just might not know about other areas.

I’m so glad I watched this, my last memories was a very nice, calm beach being there! I was planning on going again, and was expecting that same experience, im glad im aware now. Wudve been so disappointed

You have to understand what time of the year you went and also you have to understand the tide. If you would go on a warm summer day it would be a whole different story. Also the tide comes up a lot higher like in the video on certain occasions it’s not always like that.

A lot has changed since a guy name Jim Rockford lived there in an old trailer and there was an expansive beach. California just isn't the same anymore :(

3:25 - "I wonder if this place has actually gone a little bit down hill..." Like South Beach.

Michael, thank you for sharing. I agree with you in that much of the beach has disappeared. I still would go there as I live not too far (Woodland Hills) except the walk from PCH is so far and food is so expensive. I wanted to also walk on the beach and get a glimpse of the millionaire homes (the wealthiest of the wealthiest live there) but the beach just wasn’t there enough to walk it seemed like. Thank you again for sharing.

Ok, I have not been to the beach in the video but I'm thinking high tide has much to do with what you are seeing. Like in Daytona where you can drive on the beach at low tide but during high tide much of the beach disappears. Just a thought. Either way, I'll stick with Florida beaches and be happy. Side note.. I like Virginia Beach very much. Not comparing, just showing VB some love.
