‘It’s a very exciting day’: McGowan applauds search operation after Cleo Smith found

Western Australia Premier Mark McGowan says "it’s a very exciting day” after four-year-old Cleo Smith was found after being missing for 18 days.

"I know we're all so pleased and so happy with the great news that little Cleo Smith has been found alive and well,” Mr McGowan said during a media conference on Wednesday.

“It's remarkable, exciting, uplifting news that was a surprise, I'm sure to all of us, but the result of some great police work by some great people.”

He said he wanted to particularly thank the Western Australia Police, as well as volunteers and analysts who also assisted.

"And (I) thank the community of Carnarvon, who provided support and assistance and information that helped uncover what has occurred here," he said.
