The peroxide steam power gas generator cycle has successfully launched many thousands of times into orbit. The entire R-7 family of rockets including all Soyuz derivatives use the RD-107 and RD-108 engines which use this cycle!

One important thing that you left out about the gas generator cycle is that they must run the gas generator fuel or oxidizer rich to prevent melting the turbine. The reason that they are less efficient than other pump fed engines is that the extra fuel/oxidizer in the gas generator is dumped without being burned, lowering the efficiency. The reason that staged combustion engines are more efficient is that they burn the extra fuel or oxidizer used to cool gas generator exhaust in the main combustion chamber.
