Hii Frens! Today I want to share with you some sketchbook advice for beginner artists. Have you ever been so stressed to start a new sketchbook? The fear of the first blank page/blank spread.
I see so many artists showing off their perfect sketchbook tours and sketchbook walkthroughs – and there is nothing wrong with perfect sketchbooks. However, a perfect sketchbook like that can be intimidating to new artists and beginners. I’m here to tell you to make a mess in your sketchbook. Create bad art. Make something so terrible that you just laugh at it! There is no place for perfectionism in a sketchbook!
Don’t be scared to play and mess things up in your sketchbook. The whole point of a sketchbook is to play, experiment, explore new mediums, jot down ideas, organize your brain visually, take notes, brainstorm, connect dots, gather references, make collages, scribble over things, practice, learn and develop your artistic skills etc.
A sketchbook is your artistic playground. It shouldn’t be perfect because the creative process is rarely a linear path. Your sketchbook should be full of your mistakes and trials and errors.
You should not be scared to mess up a page in your sketchbook. We tend to see so many perfect sketchbooks online and think that this is what we are supposed to do. You are creating your sketchbook for yourself. It’s a visual diary. A visual journal. A visual representation of your thoughts. Why are you wanting to make it perfect for others?
