Fun fact: Since the star is 650 light years away, that means in reality, the star has already gone supernova around 600 years ago, and we will just be witnessing now.

AstroKobi: “How far is 650 light years?”
Betelgeuse: “About 20 feet”

Those who are worried about this, don't be scared! A supernova from a star can't affect us, even 50-100 light years away! The closest star to us that could go supernova is IK pegasi, but it's 150 light years away, so there's absolutely nothing to worry about!

The fact that we get to see this in our lifetime is fascinating because nobody else would probably see this in another century or so, it’s amazing this is why astronomy is my favourite topic in science 😊

When described like this, it kinda makes me wonder if "The Star Of Bethlehem" wasn't just another supernova that people of the time period couldn't explain except to assign some divine nature to it. Just a thought because it too was able to be seen both day and night
