What is History? Response to Tedx Brian Epstein

I've been watching a lot of TED Talks since I started my MAT program. I enjoy sharing ideas and in the case of TED, I like how the ideas are unique, concise, and extremely listenable. This one, less so. I actually find his conclusion quite interesting, so stick around to the end when I discuss that. However, I don't think that his talk really supported his ending. Moreover, it's important to recognize what history is and what it isn't. Lots of people have told me at one point or another that history exists so that we can predict the future. Even the saying, "those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it" pushes this idea. People who study the past actually just study the past.
