Battles That Changed History: Arsuf

This is the Battle of Arsuf from the Third Crusade in 1191 that we discuss as a part of the 9th Grade Excel Elective titled Battles That Changed History. In this battle the forces of Richard I and Saladin met near the town of Arsuf. This battle featured the Heavy cavalry of the Knights Templar and Hospitaller against a larger force of Mamelukes and infantry. We began the lesson with a discussion of the Crusades, the Holy Orders of Knights and how heavy cavalry can be used on the battlefield. The students are getting better at reading battlefields and anticipating tactics. Thanks for watching.

212 views in nearly a month? This deserves way more. I greatly enjoyed the style with which you delivered your presentation. Have you considered making little Cavalry / Infantry cards that you can just slide around the board to show movement? It might save a little time and effort in the erasing and re-drawing each division, just an idea! I'm going to binge watch the rest of your lectures now, Bravissimo!

Just to mention: great knight Jacob of Avesnes died in this battle. Hospitallers have found his body the day after the battle; seemingly his horse was killed and he was force to fight for his life on foot, killing 15 muslim warriors before being slain.

I have a few battle requests for you to do:

1. The Spanish-American War (1898 American Invasion of Puerto Rico)

2. The Battle of Gettysburg (American Civil War, July 1st-3rd, 1863)

3. The Fall of Constantinople (The End of the Byzantine Empire, 1498 or somewhere around that time, I don’t remember)

4. The Battle of “Killer Hill” (Finland, World War II, 1940)

5. The Battle of Normandy (German Occupied France, 1944-45)

6. The Battle of Trafalgar (Napoleonic Wars, 1805)

7. The Battle of Alesia (The Final Battle between Rome and Gaul (now France))

8. The Battle of the Alamo (Texas Revolution, 1836)

9. The Defeat of the Spanish Armada (1158)

10. The Battle of Stalingrad (1943-44)

I hope you do these, especially the American Invasion of Puerto Rico, because I am Puerto Rican, and that showed an important change in my country from the end of the 1800s to the present day. Also I love your videos, I actually love seeing these battles, and I never see — or take for that matter — classes like yours, keep up the good work! I also pretend that I’m in your class, like, trying to find out what are the generals going to do, like I compare what knowledge I have from reading battles in history with yours and I like guess and I find it very fun. Keep up the good work!

Awsome video, Im now doing my graduation work; its 3rd crusade and this video really helped me when i was writing about Battle of Arsuf. However, since I need to write the source, I would like to know name of professor in this video and when and where this presentation happened.

Bravo. Nice job man. I was just at Arsuf in Israel last year. Beautiful Mediterranean beach front. Lmao there is a McDonald’s right next to the battlefield now.

Richard the so called the lion heart was defeated by salahudeen.
Salahudeen being victorious pardoned the nights templers and the queen, moved all christians to the place of security in his protection.
Moral of the story should reveal the best of character.
Salahudeen did what he and all other muslims taught by prophet Muhammad Salalahu Alaihi Wasalam.
Cowards develop ghauntamis and Abu ghuraib type jail ashame humanity.
