I don't like Tom Cruise as a person, but he is absolutely underrated as an actor. He does not get type cast in the same roles over and over as you claim. Over his career he has played a lot of very different roles from dramas to action to comedy. Have you seen tropic thunder? A lot of people don't even recognize him. He has fallen into action hero type roles in the later part of his career, but I don't feel like you can say he only is able to play one type of character like Dwayne Johnson.
