Heyy, pretty important correction from a spreadsheet stat nerd:

The way that the Ravenous is implemented in the game is deceptive. It's base magazine size is actually 30, NOT 60. The game simply multiplies the mag-size by 2 wherever it's displayed to you. What it actually does when you pull the trigger is that it takes the listed weapon damage, splits it between two projectiles, then fires them in a cone equal to that of regular rifle dispersion mechanics. (They do NOT land next to each other; they go wherever they want, independently from each other, within the spread-cone. The unique reticle is purely thematic.)

You can tell it works this way by two means:
1. In the main inventory menu, the stat screen to the left of the equipped items, it shows the "real" mag-size.
2. It only takes half of a full mag-dump's worth of hits to reach the max available stacks of Breaking Point.

This is both a boon and a detriment for using the Ravenous. The obvious downside is that you actually only get half as many max stacks as advertised. However the upside is that at the base "real" mag-size of 30(+1 in the chamber) it only takes 16 (not 15!, max stacks includes +1 in the chamber!) trigger pulls in order to reach the max 31 stacks.

tl;dr: The Ravenous gets SIGNIFICANTLY less bonus damage from the set compared to other rifles, but is way better at quickly building the buff back up after it expires due to it only taking half a mag to do so.

Part two: My suggestion to improve the set

Simply make it so when swapping to another Rifle or MMR while the buff is active, refresh the buff and reload the weapon that is swapped to instead (with, say, a 5 second internal cooldown; during which, swapping will function as it does currently; ending the buff prematurely and reloading the swapped-to gun).

This makes it more unique in that it promotes equipping two Rifles or MMRs, while simultaneously fixing the identity crisis; as it allows for building high stacks with a high mag-size Rifle, and then switching to a low mag-size Rifle/MMR to still get the full bonus from the previous gun.

Part three: Ravenous propaganda

The reason why it probably feels like this set does so much damage on the Ravenous is simply because the gun is obnoxiously underrated, easily out DPS'ing pretty much any other (semi-)auto weapon in the game by at least around 40% at its base; assuming the target has enough HP to take a fully stacked detonation, otherwise the Ravenous is is still comfortably amongst the tops of the chart (around 85% of the DPS the Eagle Bearer outputs, if my memory serves me correctly). It's just too hard to both get and use for people to bother considering it.

This in conjunction with it having a better range stat AND better damage per mag than Assault Rifles/SMGs, make it an absolute monster assuming you can hit your shots at range consistently; again leaning into why the Ravenous feels so good with this set: The handling it gives (atrocious base handling being the main balancing factor of the Ravenous) makes for an IMMENSE buff to the ability for the gun to do its job consistently.

The fatal flaw of this gearset for me is that by the time you finished building up the stacks all the enemies are either dead or so weak that you can barely make use of it.

Also this is a little pet peeve but this set also punishes you for compulsively reloading so if you like to do tactical reloads you lose out on potential damage as the max dmg output hinges on if you land all your shots and reload on an empty mag.

I don't have Ravenous but my alternate build is Ninjabike, 3 piece Breaking point, Eagles Grasp and Fox's Prayer. I run Artist's Tool with it and lean into headshots with the build. HSD rolls where I can on it, and I run Dread Edict as my secondary in case I need to build bonus armor. I'm sure if I put rifleman on a classic M1A it would be more lethal, but its super fun building crazy stacks and getting perfect rifleman up to 6 stacks with a nail driver.

I've found that 3 piece Sp zoo and 3 piece overlord with the foxes knee pads and the eagle grasp gloves work like a charm. Weapon handling maxes pretty much all weapons. Roll obliterate onto the chest with composure on the back pack. Makes the merciless a nail driver, doctor's home is my preference but it will work with pretty much any rifle. I don't care for the brand set. It doesn't do enough, quick enough.

If it were up to me:
-Remove MMR, add Pistol
-Remove WH/HS, add CHC, CHD
-Remove "No stacks are acquired while bonusses are active".

I've found that this set makes the Merciless pretty good. Especially with the Eagle's Grasp gloves thrown in. You should give it a go. That said, I'm still a Hunters Fury or Hotshot player. Nothing changes here.

Wow my best build came out identical save for some red cores over blues. Now I just need the Ravenous…

I have been using the Ruthless and Merciless for testing the new gear and brand set. I prefer the brand set more then gear set but using the Ruthless / Merciless she slaps imo. And the rifles are much more easier to use with the weapon handling bonus. I was using Gunner specialization then switched to sharpshooter. Not bad. Gotta play a little less run and run but pretty cool so far imo. Have Brutus as secondary weapon if I wanna get an enemy thats a bit out of reach.

Thanks for vid.

Pretty much like you said, , mechanically I'm mostly good with it, but I don't think it commits enough into one direction. As stated, bigger mag Rifles tend to have lower damage.
Get rid of the MMR and Headshot Damage, replace it with 25% Mag Size and 50% Crit Damage. As a starting point

I gave it a shot and after not very long I was like "why am I not just using hotshot which is infinitely better" 😂
Did it with eagle's grasp.
I got a ravenous from IH a long time ago and have absolutely never used it, ill give it a shot with this but i feel like it isnt gonna change my mind

Mine is similar, only difference is that I went all red cores with a Zwiadowka Obliterate chest. I found that with how fast I can stack the gear set bonus, for reasons, the shorter window for the buff doesn't seem so bad.

your point about the gearset is the same problem i have and the reason why people always run a certain brand/gearset. They mix and match attributes way too much, just look at the brandsets that we got over the past year. I get that some people may want to do hybrid builds, but IMO a brand/gearset should always focus on 1 thing; red, blue or yellow, allow us to do the mix and match to our liking.

As a more casual player I tried it I like it not great but it got me into rifles and marksman rifles

Good video, sadly, can’t try this with my hardcore guy as I died in Countdown and did not realize that death there killed HC characters. Just glad that I have all my blueprints to look forward too. I am just going to level up through Descent I think.

I think the damage bonus timer should refresh for every kill you get rather than having to hurry to keep that damage bonus within that 10-15 seconds.

With a magazine that large I don't see how you can fire all 68 rounds before the 15 second timer expires. It seems a 40 round mag or so would be better?

I tried running this set with a Rifle and MMR combo, and I also wish the set would drop the MMR aspect and just focus on Rifles.
