What if we have a quadratic equation inside log function will the range be (-infinity +infinity)

Okay if you’re given a logarithmic equation to solve for x, how do you know if it’s within the range? I solved for like so x only = -2 but the answer key says there’s no solution because -2 isn’t within the range?
