Too many people have no idea what kind of responsibility it is to bring home a dog or a cat, let alone a mink. I'm glad you're screening potential owners to ensure your minks will go to good homes. Keep up the good work.

It's enough for me to just watch you and your mink. I don't have the time and environment they need. I would opt for something lower maintenance and less aggressive like a ferret.

Such a cool dad. Baby asks for mink and he just carries on talking whilst passing her the mink and the she hands it back and he takes it without even looking :) keep up the good work, really enjoy these vids

I wish all people that sell any animals had the same thinking like you have Joseph. You rock.

Joseph I completely 100% support you on this one. I don't care if it sounds mean but the people who can't even bother reading the book can go kiss off (and that's the clean version of how I really feel). I know I don't want to put the effort into handling a mink and I'm perfectly happy with ferrets. I love what you do and I'm content watching you do it and learning from you. But to be honest, as someone who has worked in a corporate petstore chain for the past 9 and a half years, a GOOD number of people with proper domesticated pets shouldn't even have them. If you can't even afford his book, or invest the time and effort reading it, I'm here to be bluntly honest and say you don't deserve a mink. Joseph is 100 percent correct in standing his ground here and way more nice about it. Get over it. I've seen too many animals suffer at the selfishness of people who think their pets have no right to behave like the animals they were designed to be and expect their pets to act like a well behaved toy. They want their pet to hand over lovd and trust automatically without working hard to earn real love and genuine trust from their pet. They'll automatically assume and call their dog stupid if it doesn't follow commands when in reality, they are a stupid human who lacks the ability to teach their dog to do commands. They forget they have an autonomous creature with a mind of its own, which is way smarter than them. Having an animal in your life should be treated as a privilege, and a pleasure. I think everyone has a right to that privilege, but not everyone deserves it. And yes, pets cost money. People need to get over that too. If you can't afford the book, how are you going to afford a proper habitat? Proper equipment for handling, training, and hunting the mink? How about the food? Predator animals have very intense and expensive diets. Joseph is looking out for his animals. If I wanted to get a mink, he would be the first guy I would go to because he takes good care of his animals. I would know I would be getting, a healthy, happy, and well developed critter. I wish more animal breeders would be like him.

Whenever I see people online saying they want a mink (usually because they think they're 'prettier ferrets') I always redirect them to your channel, Facebook group, and book. You're truly a gold mine of info on mink training and husbandry!

Getting one book isn't enough... The love and care for wild animals isn't learned in a book or two, it's a lifetime of observation, research and genuine affection for the animal kingdom. Asking any potential Mink owners to read at least one book as a prerequisite is giving them a huge break... Folks don't complain if Mr. Carter is asking you to read his book.

Your really serious thats what i like. people have to understand thats it is not just like anyother pet. And i understand that you want to help people with the mink and give them a head start. But they can't get a mink wen they didden't read your book. and this is not easy to get your trying to say your willing to give them a change but also carefull for it to get horrible.

I would like a mink. But I'm still working on myself so I don't see me having one for awhile.

I love your channel. I'm not a hunter. I'm not outdoorsy. I just happened to randomly come across your channel, and then became fascinated by, as you say, these wonderful creatures - as well as your relationship to them. I have the sense to know I'm not a good fit to care for these animals. From all the videos I've seen, it seems like a LOT of work, and I don't have the environment for them. Thank you for caring about the mink and other people and for approaching this topic the way you are. Makes perfect sense.

Joseph Carter is the real deal. His love and compassion for these beautiful creatures deserve much praise. I can't wait for my book to get here and maybe someday being a custodian of one of these beautiful animals.

Thank you for being so open and honest. You are what we need in the animal husbandry world of small animals. Not just profit... But stewardship.

Smart man! Cat trainer/ fosterer here! I wish more people vetted potential pet owners like you do!

I know I'm not experienced enough to handle mink and that's ok! I still love these videos and maybe if money and my training ability improve in the future, I'd love to send you a message!

I personally learned training from teaching my cat's first, then my aunt's "violent" cat, then stray cats, then trained my neighbor's dogs and my brother's dogs while dog-sitting.

Dogs are a great place to start but if you can't commit to a lifetime of vets bills, food and enrichment materials (toys), then you're not ready yet to own a pet. I would say you need to be prepared for bites, scratches and messes too, but both cats and dogs can be trained to go potty in a certain area and not to bite/scratch you.

I'd still like to train a fish through a hoop though...

i totally agree, it is a responsable action for the potentiel buyer to read your book, prepare themselves, it's also for the well-being of mink.Because adopt a pet like mink needs lots of time, effort, maybe even lifestyle changing behind it. well done.
