Never give your personal information such as your Social Security number, Medicare number, birth date, etc. to unsolicited callers! Please talk to vulnerable loved ones to protect them from identity theft.

I worked at a place the HR person was compromising employee info. You never know where it could come through, change passwords often! Use multiple steps to sign in. This is really scary! I like to keep all my personal data on an external drive & protect it with a password lock. So my laptop or PC is just programs & games, I would miss but not any way to tell who owns the computer apart form a name I gave to each computer.

I do alot of things old school... But everyone can be a victim of identity theft.... My 97 yr old mother in law is not aloud to answer the phone... Cause she could be duped... And still knows her We turn the ringer off on her phone.. She doesnt know when its ringing... But she could dial 911 in emergency... She lives with us and is not left alone ever... But it would only take a minute if we were outside and she took a call and blurted out her info to a scammer... We get tons of calls on back brace... Microsoft etc.... Everynight i erase the crap off the housephone answering machine.... And she could have answered those calls daily... Luckily we are here with her... To prevent her from becoming a victim. Scammers are such *ss*oles to the elderly and compromised.

This isn’t a joke! When my husband was in the navy in Norfolk VA my wallet was stolen. Back then there wasn’t the extensive problem with identity theft that there is now with the capabilities of the internet and photoshop etc to make amazingly realistic fake ID. But I reported it and we shortly after returned to WA (home) Later that year I went to renew my drivers license. I was SHOCKED when they told me I couldn’t bc my license was suspended in Virginia! I had never had a VA drivers license! Then came the debt to a bank for bad checks in my name. I literally spent HOUR after HOUR, days, weeks and some things were months to clear up. I had to do every single step myself bc I couldn’t afford s lawyer and identity theft was a pretty new crime (this was 1985-86) it was horrible and almost ruined us financially just paying the long distance calls to places in VA to track every debt down and try to address it. I was terrified about our credit being ruined. We were almost ready to purchase our first home and it was brutal mentally and physically (anxiety, panic, insomnia, and everything that goes with that. Now with the phone/computer scams they are more ruthless and dangerous than ever! People please please, please listen to Sarah and watch her other scam busting videos to learn how to protect your self and identity. Never ever give out your information on the phone or online! A legit company will give you their website, their home and info page, their names and real phone numbers and they will give it to you with no hesitation. If you think you may be interested in what they’re trying to sell you, they will gladly be open and everything traceable. Address, phone, name, mailing address, cityc country. Before telling them a single word get their information and search them, even a quick Google search can tell you tons. So never give your info, ask them to send you their “offer” thru the mail, get s call back number and CALL it! Never ever ever under any circumstance give your name, bank info, social security number, the city you live in (if they’re legit they’ve got legal access to many of these things) Protect yourself always!!! And again LISTEN TO SARAH! I LOVE that you’re getting sponsors now, that is so exciting. I’m so happy for you!
