I love this scene because it shows what a true gentleman Aragorn was. He knew how to be kind and compassionate to Eowyn while keeping her at arm's length since he was already promised to another.

So well acted by Miranda. She touched on a fear, I sometimes have. As many of you fans know, this was a recurring dream of Tolkien. It represents the end of it all, to me. Salvation calls from behind but you cannot move. There is fear for what is to come. And what is to come is not known. Only that it is the will of the light that shines behind us. Unseen but glorious.

This is actually based off a recurring dream Tolkien used to have. He was fascinated with the story of Atlantis as a child. The dream is based off that legend. He later incorporated "the great wave" into the mythos of middle earth. And peter jackson apparently pays homage to that by including it here, in Eowyn's dream.

I love this. should've stayed in the theatrical cut. it isn't long, but it adds a lot of emotion to the whole sequence. really shows how everyone is plagued by the growing darkness.

Eowyn is 23 years old during the events of LOTR. I think her young age meant that even if he wasn’t with Arwen, Aragorn still would never have been interested in her romantically considering he was old enough to be her grandfather. He shows a very fatherly attitude toward her and the hobbits. I’d argue his farewell kiss to Boromir’s head was more fatherly than brotherly since Boromir was young enough to be his son.
