With most 2nd gen Rams the steering issues are much more complex than adjusting slack in the gear box

If it's this bad, you need a full front end rebuild there is alot of play in those bushing and bearings. It's not the steering gearbox mainly, alot of it may be in the track bar. The best way to check for steering slop is with the truck off.

I’m actually doing one as a project.

The things to fix the problem is
Buy new steering linkage
Control arms
Damper
Get a steering box brace
And don’t beat the sh*t out of it.

6 point 5/8 socket
Ball joint universal
30 inch 1/2 extention.

theese trucks suck dog. silverado's and fords drive straight as an arrow with no issues from the same year. They have more power, better transmissions, better towing capacity. these trucks are a joke. New rams are okay but, but ford and chevy all the way.
