Looks cute. For a few months. And then you run. Not that you can outrun it. Still, really magnificent beasts.

Fun fact: The bear has been historically feared by humans. The ancient Indo-Europeans called him *h1rtkós, which in their language meant "destroying". It is from this Proto-Indo-European word that the Latin term "ursus" and Greek term "ártkos" are derived, both of which mean "bear".

However the ancient Germanic peoples (descendants of the Indo-Europeans) feared him even more. They were even afraid to refer to him by the name, afraid that taking his name would invoke him. People in those days lived in small settlements surrounded by the wilderness so it was always bad news when the bear showed up. So they used a "euphemism" for him, a way to refer to him without actually saying his name. They started calling him "*berô" which in Proto-Germanic literally meant "the brown one". And it is from THIS word that the modern English word "bear" is derived. It is also related to the English word "brown".

Here's a fun fact about sun bears. Sometimes they are nickname Honey Bears because of their fondness of honey. The video game character, Banjo from Rareware's 90's platformer, Banjo-Kazooie is claimed to be a honeybear from the actual creators themselves.🍯 🐻🐦
