UPSC Prelims 2023 is a GAME of Luck, or is it really? | As you wait for UPSC Prelims 2023 Results

Many years ago, I missed the UPSC final list by 8 marks. My score in optionals was amongst the highest in India, my interview score was second highest.

A few years later, I’m in Istanbul - discussing with one of India’s entry level diplomats, whether it makes sense for him to leave services and do an MBA.

1. India changed : We aren’t a 20th century economy anymore. With the advent of liberalization - state control of power shifted from Civil Servants to specialized professionals.

Current JS of Civil Aviation is an MBA from IIM A and was a partner at KPMG. There are 100 others like him who are laterally hired and contributing immensely through their work

2. Working for Society : If Sunder Pichai had cleared IAS- he would be working as a collector in Noida. Impact he has created is insurmountable to one he could possibly create while being in services

It is extremely critical that exceptional people join IAS, but for those who couldn't should know that entry through an exam isn’t the only route in 21st Century India to make a difference.

Many youngsters preparing for IAS in India quit their jobs, take multiple years of sabbatical, and thoroughly screw up their 20s - in anxiety and depression with a hope of getting into civil services (that has a yearly cycle, less than .5% success rate, and an archaic curriculum).

There is no better way to screw up your life than prepare for government exams in India (without any backup plan).

From a career in the United Nations to social impact, to getting laterally hired - you can do a million things to create a large-scale impact.

Do write to me, if you are crumbling under pressure because of a few bad decisions you made in your 20s. . Life is definitely more than an exam that the British created to recruit loyal servants.

Flukes unfortunately didn't worked much sir there were about nearly 40 question where I took risk 50:50 out of 2 options and unfortunately most of them were wrong so risk is rewarding for some but not fr many giving ur years to this exam and loose due to some luck factor is seriously something thts hurts

Ofcourse without pre one can not clear this exam but....mains is the real game....where relevant connections with GS AND CURRENT IS ULTIMATE THING TO MASTER....TO GET THE SERVICE....

Only if.. eliminating even one option is easy this time !

Even you eliminate three statement in 4 statement question, your chance of getting the answer correct is 50:50. Either the answer would be only one or no pair correct. I came across many questions like this in exam hall. This was my 2nd attempt and i couldn't qualify.

Disagree this paper had no scope for elimination there is a difference between elimination and just pure gamble the kind of questions that were asked here were not suitable for elimination you have to know all 4 statements well to answer and what’s the point of making a paper which can be cleared by luck when the real knowledge test is in mains you are removing good students from the race without even giving them a chance to show their knowledge it was not just an inconsiderate paper it was also not fit for a civil service exam pov

There were 300 to 400 Questions. when you see the options they were question on its own.
This is brutal joke by upsc. I don't know what upsc is trying to chase but this is joke with thousands of people.

csat was gs was not much tough, 107 in gs an faile in csat.mostly questions were straight from ncert specially ancient an meeval question
