The effect send/return is mental. You can add your entire pedalboard into the chain wherever you want.

Your teaching prowess is shown here. Your demeanor with robo assistant is pleasant, your language to the manufacturer is concise. 👍🏽 great in-depth product explanation

Loved the review. Favourite line? “The pickie-upset thing here.” Loved the humour. Thank you.

Well done! I'll continue to go through this video. I'm using the computer now so that's really cool. I agree that this is better for expanding the guitar rather than being the core sound. After all, we all play guitar because we like guitar. Thanks!

This thing is a monster. I really thought it was a ROMpler, no its a full time synth. I was about to write ''I would have loved to hear the harmonizer'', but you did use it a little bit. I have been looking to be able to replicate Blind Guardian harmonizer-distortion-wah for years now, and I really think this unit can get really close. I really wonder if Roland used that kind of screen to be future proof. The screens on all my old Boss, Roland/Rhodes, are still alive after decades, and I don't know if the new touch screens will be able to say the same in 20 years. As always amazing walk through/Review. You really showed us what that thing can do, it can almost make you forgot what we are living now...

Ok, so if I turn all the sound engines off and go to normal input, I seem to have no sound whatsoever. How do I turn the normal input sound on, even though it is showing as turned on on the device?

Thanks for the deep dive. Very helpful. I am considering whether to sell my VG99 and buy this. The guitar and amp modeller looks pretty much the same. The effects and tweak ability too. What sets it apart are the synth engines, although the VG99 dies have the GR300 engine.

Dear Sir, I own the GR55 and I regret a lot of things on this device, namely:
1) We spend too much time turning the knobs and looking for control commands.
2) the interface and the display screen of the SY 1000 is identical to the GR55 (while there are touch screens on the new ones HeadRush ) 10 years later which I find it awfull from BOSS.
So I am afraid to buy the SY1000 and discover bad things and the worst : the latency...

In the end it comes down to the really hard part: turning all this noise into music.

Can you remove the cheesy reverbs and delay from the guitar simulation ?

Polyfx distortion: I guess this is like sending 6 strings to 6 separate amps. Strumming large chords should sound cleaner

I hope this thing has software that can be used via usb to program this thing.... that would make it so worth it.

i bought this pedal. I was going to use gk3 with an old electric guitar. I usually play accoustic. the tuning head broke on my old electric. can anyone recommend a guitar that would go well with gk3? something between 500 AUD and a 1000. I'm thinking good quality parts, but don't have to worry about pick up.

This is really a fantastic piece of gear from BOSS, alongside the GT-1000. The GX-100 is such corny looking letdown with its color touchscreen.

Great teaching - having had the unit for a little while now, there were still some things I learnt from your video that are not adequately covered in the manual, so thanks.

Only thing I would like to pick up on, was that you mention several times this is OK for live, but not for recording: I have to disagree somewhat here. All depends on how you hone the sounds. For example, the over bright 'default' acoustic patches are over bright for a reason … so you can remove top, since if it didn't have it you couldn't add it :)
I have certainly heard worse sounds on a lot of commercial recordings.
Worth mentioning too is that for a lot of guitarists this might be the only practical option, as fretting and getting a good clean sound can be more difficult for some on a 'real' acoustic box.

The amp modeler / speaker / mic is easy on a par with Helix (without having to buy 3rd party IR's), and the effects and such are far better IMHO. No experience personally of the AXE, but cost …. Whoa! So, I think with good editing, plus of course whatever you do in the DAW will yield equal results.
Agree with comments about screen and navigation - but isn't the AXE supposed to be a bitch to edit too? I guess this is the bane of all super-complex musical tools.

Boss has really hit the mark with this one; for sure there are things that could be improved and on the VG forum there is a 'wish list' as well as a 'bug list' (very few!) that the Boss team have promised to consider. Yes, they are talking! And listening!! I think that employing you to do this series displays that level of commitment to the product? Great.

Thanks again for your usual brilliant delivery, humor and information. A great way to spend an hour is in your company :)

Best, Steve

Maybe a project for the next guy – or a guest reviewer; the fact that it does guitar amp modeling however, and is being promoted as having amp modeling capability, really compels a more dedicated exploration of the guitar-specific amp modeling abilities. For example, does it “chug, ” do pinch harmonics, track with sweeping and speed picking, and do The Le Metal? In addition, a real-time performance demonstration of switching between a “clean – crunch – lead” patch-list would be appreciated. I know it’s a synth first – but for the price, the promoted integration of guitar amp modeling, and the modern high-gain market – I think it’s worth looking into. Cheers~
