THE SAS | 1987 PETERHEAD PRISON RAID | EPIC SPECIAL FORCES MISSION

On the 2nd of Oct 1987, a riot erupted at HMP at Peterhead, Scotland. Hundreds of prisoners rioted against the prison warders and took one officer as hostage. There was a clear threat to life.

This is the inside story of how the SAS were called in to stamp out the riot. Were they too eager in teaching the rioting prisoners a lesson they would not forget?

I’m a former inmate of Peterhead prison and I witnessed protests and riots in Peterhead and other Scottish prisons in the late eighties the Scottish prisons were constantly being rioted with violence protests and the prisoners were correct in their riotous behaviour because of the brutality against them from prison officers who were bullies who enjoyed their time bullying prisoners and the SAS were used to stop the Peterhead riot as Jackie Stewart was a Nazi who could have easily been beaten to death yours sincerely Johnny Hunter Peterhead prisoner fought the system of brutality against prisoners…

I'm 55 now and remember this happening. It's crazy to think just a handful of guys went into a prison full some of the hardest convicts around, and had the situation under control in 6 minutes. And no one got killed! So much respect for the SAS!

If you run at a SAS soldier with a knife and live to tell the tale you should be thankful you're still alive, Trying to sue someone stopping you committing a crime is ridicules.

Great video👍

It's funny how these hard men suddenly expect the very law they've spent their entire lives sticking 2 fingers up to, want to hide behind when it suits them. Just bullies hiding behind their mothers' petticoat.

The SAS acted legally, precisely as they were trained to do. They rapidly rescued the injured Prison officer from dangerous men using the minimum force necessary and effectively. The operation was perfectly executed. Well done the SAS.

SAS did exactly what was expected of them, then they're put on trial, what a fucked up country we are!

The sas had every reason to be heavy handed. They are not trained to be soft. It was critical for them to be fast and effective. Job well done

If you are assaulted by the SAS and you survive. Just be thankful.

The fact that that criminals could take legal action against the SAS goes to sgow that the UK has been going soft for years

As a Canadian and aware of Canada’s Special Forces, I have to be very impressed in the very short time it took this storied unit to put an end to the siege. Here in Canada with a rather small military as it is becoming more and more difficult to recruit, our Special Forces are relied upon domestically and abroad. From what I know about the different units, each providing a special skill set to apply in those situations they are called upon to handle. They have had enormous success and are recognized around the world as “Very Special Forces”. My hats off to the famous and very competent SAS as they are responsible for doing jobs unsuitable for 99.999 of the rest of the world. Enough said!🇨🇦🇬🇧

More fuss was made regarding the treatment of murderous law-breaking sociopaths than the multiple stabbings and beatings of the prison guard.

Wish the UK still had this mentality, prisoners acting hard ? Send in the world’s best special forces to make them look like children. Wish we weren’t so tolerant now

When a politician authorises the SAS into a situation like this they go in hard and fast. These men are soldiers they are trained to kill not take prisoners. Don't feel sorry for people who get in there way they deserve what is coming. Who Dares Wins

Definitely not too heavy handed! If anything, they got off lightly.

Ah, the old “I thought it was a wall, but he fell through a hole in the floor “ one 😂😂. Well done lad, I bet there was some stuff very rightly dished out that day.

As a Scotsman I remember that, the SAS were in and out, mission accomplished in 15 minutes, brilliant.

Maggie didn't mess about, if only we had politicians with her mettle these days. 'Heavy-handed' was what those cons deserved - they were serious violent gangsters and criminals. And the time available to prevent a disaster was very short. Even in namby-pamby UK, Special forces are much more covert and integrated these days, and times and tactics have moved on. Other specialists are equally capable, and you never know when they're around.
