African music can be hard to define, given the sheer variety it contains. However, certain characteristics can be described as typically African. For African Beat André Waignein made use of two such features that feature throughout the work: a ubiquitous African rhythm and an ‘Afro-pop’ style which has emerged in the music of the continent in recent decades.
