When The Pursuit of Happyness came out, I was only 18 and I liked it but I didn't appreciate it as much because I had not experienced life or hardships yet. Now I'm in my 30's with a 2yr old son and the movie just hits different now and when I watched it again last week, I admit I got emotional during the scene when Chris Gardner gets hired on as a broker. We need more movies like this.

I was thinking about that yesterday. The main character's arc is external. It happens around him and not within him, he doesn't learn anything new or changes his views. People around him do due to his struggle and efforts.
What makes this movie such a hit is the recognition and validation of the character's sacrifices and struggles. Which is SO RELATABLE.
