Green screen lighting

A quick overview of the green screen component of a video studio I'm assembling. Touches on the screen itself and the lighting thereof, as well as keying in Premiere CS5.5.

You can see some slight bleed-through in the shirt. That's because the shirt has some green in it. Don't wear green when you're shooting green chromakey.

It should be noted that a wider area of the screen could be evenly lit if the backdrop lights were pulled farther away from the screen. The setup I have is specific to my needs and available floor space.

Camera: Canon XF-100
Fluid head: Manfrotto 504HD
Green screen: Eefx 5x7 chromakey green
Lights (for screen): 3 Impact Octacool-6 units burning 4 (of 6) bulbs each

I wouldn't say that the 504HD is overkill. True, it's capable of handling much larger cameras than the XF-100, but my goal wasn't to match camera weight to head capacity. I was looking for extremely smooth panning and tilting and that's what the 504HD provides. It's worth noting that I've tried the 501HD also and, while it's possible to tilt and pan smoothly with it, the 504HD makes doing so much easier. Set the resistances correctly (also easy to do) and you'll get super-smooth movement.

Great video, thank you for your green screen tips. By the way, what program did you use to create that little caption on the bottom of your video around 35 to 40 seconds? Premiere Pro?

How are you finding the 504HD with the XF-100? I am looking at a new tripod for my XF-100 and was wondering if the 504HD is overkill or if it balances up ok?
