Is This A New Way To Walk In VR Games? Testing The Cybershoes Gaming Station

Today I am trying the Cybershoes VR gaming station which is yet another product that claims to solve the problem of locomotion in VR. The Cybershoes however do this in an interesting way and that is seated!

So back in the day when consumer VR was still in its infancy stages we are all told to sit down and take it as the standard that would be around for a while well at least from companies like Oculus.
Well flash forward a few years and all of a sudden sitting in VR was no longer the thing to do and virtual reality was all about room scale now. It was at this time that most VR-gamer's got up out of their comfy seats to find out that as mind blowing as room scale VR is it can get tiring after a while standing on your feet... especially at the end of a long day of well.. standing on your feet!

So now we have the Cybershoes Gaming Station which claims to solve for both of these issues... It allows for infinite walking and turning while in VR all while still slightly seated. The Cybershoes take a different approach to solving for the locomotion problem by having the user sit in a bar stool and strap foot controllers over their shoes to sort of walk in place while perched on the stool for stability.

I have to say this approach works surprisingly well in most of the games I tried and does add to the immersion of playing them but it isn't perfect either! As it has been with the other VR walking solutions I have tried recently I just could not get the Cybershoes to ever truly feel like the walking action was 1:1 with my leg movements. With both the AgileVR and WalkOVR systems I got closer because they both have the ability to fine tune the experience in their launcher software. With the Cybershoes the software suite is a bit lacking on any ability to tune the device and the only means of adjustment is currently through a physical slider on the units controller.

Overall I found the Cybershoes to be fun to play with and one hell of a leg workout too... Oh yeah, the Cybershoes are awesome for VR fitness applications and had me breaking a sweat and feeling the burn in no time! I plan to revisit the fitness aspect of this device soon but for now if you want to learn more about the Cybershoes or buy a set for yourself then please heads to the link below:

A treadmill type of square is prolly the best for immersion. This not so much but it's a start. Also best of luck with the VR workout routine. I saw a few vids on it and it looks killer! I am also glad to be back as a viewer of your channel. I haven't been an active watcher since the og Vive launch day. Glad to see VR is making a comeback

Hay Don!

Just took a trip back to your first video . . . its actully amazing to see how far VR has really come in just 5 years and also how far you've come in the same time. Great vid as always.

When I saw the demo version Linus talked about, it looked good then. Really interested in getting these when I get a VR setup going. Also, I think you have included in your B roll you playing halflife while in boxer-briefs at 9:20.

I don't think we are going to get a good walking without a 360 like treadmill. Still at least seem easy enough to store when not in use. Although as another poster mentioned, having rollers not just move back and forth would be nicer.

I'm gonna say NO. Putting a lot of pressure on our belly's Don when we need to bend over to pick stuff up on the ground, and when have we ever ever walked while seated... lmfao. I'd rather do the walking in place, but nice video man, keep it up.

Don, I am so glad you demo this stuff for it. On paper it looks awesome but yeah, I wonder about anything other than forward and backward movements you know? Strafing, etc. Having never tried anything and the price on this package, I would think Walk OVR is closer to what I am looking for.

Probably feels like you are on an office chair trying to pull yourself around. 😆

I love my Cybershoes, but they do not solve locomotion. I love burning calories while I play. I honestly think brain interfacing is the only way to truly solve VR locomotion. Cybershoes is the leader as of right now imo. Great video man! []-)

Have you tried an omni-tread yet? That's probably the best option you're going to find.

I have the cybershoes. It's fun but can be tiresome pretty quickly.

How did it feel to walk just using your knees in VR? It seems like your feet would get tired quickly.

Also do you think you could get away with using as standard swivel chair with these or is the bar stool mandatory?
