Pejjy, the 1/2 cost is build cost, not retail. They are saying they can build it for 1/2 the price of a model 3, not that they will retail for half the price of a model 3. in other words, they will be very profitable at around the 30K mark US.

Model A, T and E are owned by Ford. That's why the Model 3 couldn't be called Model E. So there won't be a Model A. Maybe a Model 1 to represent A, first letter of the alphabet. Who knows 😕

Model Q could make sense. Back in the 90's, a sleeper car, one that flew under the radar and was not noticed but had great performance was often called a Q ship. A re engineered model Y and 3 with the same look but much better specs and costs could be considered a Q ship by the old definition. Just sayin'.

Now, why no model A? Cause Ford owns it. The model A was the replacement for when they finally released a followup to the original model T and both those names are continually re-trade marked by Ford as they are too important to their history to let them go. Well, until Ford goes bankrupt and then they are free game.

Price in China are much lower than In Europe/US. So to compete with BYD on its own turf, price has to ve competitive in China, not in the US. US prices include a 100% tariff, EU... Depends on the maker, but 25% or more.
