Welcome back for another Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon update video. In this video, I will be talking about the new official announcement regarding House of the Dragon's showrunner, Miguel Sapochnik, leaving the show. Unfortunately, it looks like Miguel Sapochnik is stepping down as showrunner on House of the Dragon after only one season. Game of Thrones' veteran, and director, Alan Taylor, will step in for Miguel. Alan Taylor will be directing multiple episodes for House of the Dragon's second season. House of the Dragon Season 1 Episode 3 airs this Sunday on HBO and HBO Max. Let me know what you think about this breaking news. Thanks for watching!

honestly this isn't the worst news, it's sad that he's leaving but I think things will be fine with the new guy. he already has experience from early GOT and I think that could be a good thing.

Miguel is out of this world when it comes to directing battle scenes. It’ll be difficult to replace him but I have faith in the producers and HBO. We will miss him.

Damn, this is a bit of a let down. Miguel had some great directing in GOT and large scaled war scenes. Hoping he does still direct a few war episodes. Alan Taylor is a great director as well though and looking forward to his direction on the series. Still glad Miguel will be around in some way and hoping he show runs a future series, maybe Aegons Conquest?

This didn't really come as a big surprise tbh, Miguel Sapochnik never really wanted to come back in the first place, Ryan really had to convince him to return. I think that final season of GOT really wore Miguel out, you could visibly see how exhausted he was in the "the last watch" documentary, especially during the filming of the Long Night episode in s8, those 60 straight days & nights of filming must have been brutal. I think he's just not ready to take that ride again, especially now with HOTD really taking off & how it'll prob be in production for the next 5 years or so. I wish him the best, im sad to see him go, he's my all time favorite GOT director, but i totally respect his decision & with Alan Taylor stepping in as director, I don't think this will effect the overall quality of HOTD.

Miguel said that he wasn’t even that interested in coming back for HotD but since he friends with Ryan he was convinced. I think they both knew that there was a good chance Miguel would end up stepping down but felt it was important for him to be very involved in the first season to set the standard. This is not at all bad news considering I don’t think Miguel was very involved at the showrunnner level in the first place. His name isn’t even listed in the “created by” credits after the intro.

I can only imagine how much work goes into directing such a massive cast and crew of that magnitude.

Who knows, maybe Miguel just returned too soon and was really burnt out from when he did work in GOT, and when you're burnt out, you can't quite bring the same passion and energy as you usually do, even if you're good at the job and you give it the best you can.
Welcome back into the GOT universe Alan

I'm sure he'll come back to direct some key episodes. He just doesn't want to be co-showrunner. If we had lost Ryan Condal, that would've been time to get worried. He's the one George trusts most with the lore. I think we'll be fine.

He definitely has to direct the God's Eye battle, and a few of the other upcoming battles in the show. He doesn't have to run the show, just direct the episodes.

Well as long as he’s overseeing everything and not letting the show go into crapper

Miguel is the best ♥️

At least he was honest and said he was tired instead of giving half effort I’m cool with it

Your intro is STILL the best & most catchy intro on YouTube! It gets stuck in my head & I just adore it! For the longest it was the thing that brought me back time & again.
Once I realised how much I enjoy your point of view though & your edits @Talking Thrones, I became hooked & haven't missed a video. You were my first call once I knew House of the Dragons was being made. Thank you!!

I hope this doesn't have a negative impact.

I'm gonna miss his epic one shots. The way he captures a character is incredible.

I thought the same thing about the God’s Eye battle. A few others I’d like him to do too but that one is definitely the most important to be done right

Well that's a sort of relief. I feared he was stepping down cause of negative reasons, such as heavy disagreements between the show runners and such, which could affect the show negatively. But the reason he's stepping down isn't bad at all. It's a very understandable reason. One can only imagine what it takes to direct such a show as GoT, and now HOTD. Would be cool to have him back for certain special episodes in the future though for sure!

I just have nothing but gratitude to Miguel Sapochnik for the amazing work that he's done on "Game of Thrones" and "House of the Dragon". I would love for him to come back and guest direct in the future if he chooses to do so, but in either case, I wish him all the best in his future endeavors.

Seven Blessings, Ser Miguel! Well done! 🔥🐉🔥

I’m nervous about it! But hopeful that it won’t negatively affect the show! Thanks for your info as always!

I'm honestly not surprised by this, in the interviews prior to the show airing he sounded like he really didn't want to be involved and that it took a lot of convincing for him to do this first season.
