I am absolutely loving these 'Top 10 Films of XXXX' videos, and at the end of each, I realize that there are several that I have to go track down and watch (especially in the case of the older films). The way you describe them makes every single one seem like a must-see, and you're always right on the money. You are personally responsible for dramatically increasing the quality of my film collection. Thank you!

I literally clicked on this because I knew Treasure Of Sierra Madre would have to be on this list, one of the greatest films of all time

Only Bogart could go from Casablanca to getting his head lopped off in The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre. My 1 is Treasure & #2 is The Red Shoes.

Great list! Happy to see that we both have the same films in the top 3, although I don't know if it is the same order on my part. I think I've heard of every film on this list, although you're commentary certainly made me more intrigued to watch them.

For 1949, I recommend Late Spring and The Third Man, as well as some I haven't seen but heard a lot of good things about, those being A Letter To Three Wives, The Set-Up, Jour de fete, Adam's Rib, On The Town, The Heiress, Kind Hearts And Coronets, White Heat, and Stray Dogs.

Oh, and hope you lose the COVID, man. I've had it myself and it was absolutely horrid.

Cheers!

The Year that brought me to the world ought have some good ones.
1 Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstien. personal favorite
2 Portrait of Jenney classic ghost. impressionist score.
3 Key Largo.
4 The Snake Pit. I remember some lesser films, shown on TV, The Boy with Green Hair. A study of conformity.

1948 was a great year for film. I'm a big noir film fan and you could make a solid top ten of just noir from '48. Some that would make my top ten are Road House, Pitfall, Raw Deal, They Live by Night, Key Largo, Hollow Triumph, Force of Evil, He Walked by Night and of course the ones you have on your list. The Treasure of the Sierra Madre is my number 1 and one of my top ten of all time. I would love to see all these on the big screen but it's highly unlikely to occur.

My mother was a jazz singer and dancer and The Red Shoes was her favorite movie.

I forgot to say i am fan of Jean Arthur who you mention. I've only seen a few of her films but liked her performances.

Bicycle Thieves would have to be my number 1. But so glad Drunken Angel made your list.

Also the two killers in Rope are not assholes. They’re in love.

You say that in the treasure of the Sierra Madres that you can tell it's Mexico and not the United States but I grew up near Big bend in Texas and it looks almost exactly the same. You can tell that it's not a set or the California desert but I'm not sure you can tell that it's Mexico.

Three That said, I always applaud when I see a movie I know here.. I think I've seen them all except the Kurosawa, which looks pretty wild. Foreign Affair! Naked City! Germany Year Zero knocked the wind out of me and so did Bicycle Thieves! I loathe John Wayne, but he made a few good ones. I might add The Search, the other Clift film from 1948.
