Tips for driving in the desert: make sure you have water in your car. Not just a water bottle or two, but several or just buy a gallon jug to refill your bottle. This is just in case you get stranded. Also, there will be large areas where you will not have cellular coverage, so make sure you have downloaded your route or digital map, or have a paper map, or have an updated stand-alone gps device. Have snacks and a blanket in your car….again, just in case you get stranded. Never let your gas tank get below half a tank if at all possible - you’ll never know when you’ll be able to refill next. Otherwise….enjoy your trip and have a blast!

Shaun, I'm putting my two cents in on this one: As others have mentioned, if you can, you might try to squeeze in some southern Utah national parks: Bryce, Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef. Also, about an hour and twenty minutes east of Sedona is Barringer Crater, AKA Meteor Crater. The crater is 170 m deep, almost 1.2 km across, and was created some 50, 000 years ago.

Make sure you arrange to take a guided tour at Monument Valley. You can only get off the highway and main loops if you are with a Navajo guide, because it is Tribal land. I did a photography tour and got to see sandstone arches, the interior of a hogan, talk with Navajo women about their lives living simply on the land, besides some beautiful vistas we’d never see on our own.

When you’re on Tribal land, make sure you stop at one of the places serving Navajo food. Fry bread and mutton stew are a must. ( Yes, I know you’re probably very familiar with mutton).

Make sure you have plenty of water, a blanket, downloaded maps, and warm clothes. The deserts get pretty cool to cold at night in November. Dressing in layers is key.

Holy cow! That's a heck of a trip! Utah, Colorado, and New Mexico are a must for both desert and alpine locations and are all close together. Looking forward to seeing those videos.

The autumn leaves in Boston are brilliant. You'll really like it! Boston is such a great city to tour, especially if you're into American history. Even though most of America isn't very pedestrian-friendly, Boston is one of the exceptions. The metro in Boston (better known as "the T") is great, and will take you to just about anywhere you need to go.

You're very wise to visit the desert Southwest during the autumn instead of the summer!

SHAUN, what you really need to do on a separate trip is to do the Mighty Five (National Parks) Tour in Southern Utah (which could include Monument Valley). The Parks are Zion, Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, and Bryce Canyon. And a good starting point for that trip would be Vegas. You can fly right into Vegas International Airport, rent a car (a Jeep would be good for that one) and take that Tour. It would take a good 7 to 10 days, as you'd wanna spend at least 2 days at each National Park, and then there's several smaller State Parks around the region that you can check out in just a day each. Zion is just 2 hours (~120 miles) up the road from Vegas on I-15. So that'd be your first stop. Bryce Canyon is next. Then Capitol Reef. Then up to Arches. Back down to Canyonlands. And then down thru Monument Valley. (It's a big circle thru the Southern Utah desert. But the thing is, the drive to each Park is just as interesting and beautiful as the Parks themselves. I'm surprised that whole section wasn't declared a National Park back in the day, but I guess that would have restricted any development on it. As there are a few towns throughout.

REMEMBER that the western deserts get cold in November. The most southern parts of Arizona and New Mexico will be warmer. Las Vegas will have good weather. Some deserts will be cold. 🤔

This is exciting! Maybe next time you could see all the National Parks in Southern Utah. Zions, Bryce, Canyonlands, Arches. The beauty is one of a kind. I'm in Northern Utah. The leaves have already fallen from the trees in the mountains where I live. It's been a gorgeous month up here. Prepare for cold. We're supposed to have a Canadian cold front starting soon. They was also it will dip down all the way to Arizona. It will be below freezing. If I could, I'd drive the 6 hours to St George, Utah which is not far from Vegas. Sadly that won't happen this year.
Next year I'll be in Edinburgh the end of October! My daughter already bought the tickets. Much love to you and Teka💜

Everyone overlooks the beauty of Arkansas, my home state. It’s an outdoor lover’s dream. Any outdoor activity you want is here. The Ozarks have many lakes for fishing. Lots of parks for hiking, canoeing, kayaking, etc. We have an active diamond mine, Crater of Diamonds State Park. You can keep your finds. There have been some VERY nice ones found too. 40.23 carats. It’s called the Uncle Sam. They have regular locals on a daily basis who can tell you some stories. Also, Lake Ouachita is amazing for kayaking. There are islands all over the river you can kayak to😢 and camp. Hot Springs has hot spring baths on Bathhouse Row located in Hot Springs Nat’l Park, along with horse racing and casino. Eureka Springs, Petit Jean Mountain….I could go on! I hope you consider checking out our state.

I’ve always enjoyed watching your videos! Excited for your next trip back to America.

I’ve lived in Las Vegas for 46 years. Been everywhere in the SW. San Diego is amazing. On your way to Phoenix try to visit Tombstone. Eat some hatch green chilies in NM. Las Vegas is amazing but has way more to offer than the neon strip. 30 minutes to Red Rock. 50 minutes to Mnt. Charleston. 60 minutes to Hoover Dam. 60 minutes to Valley of Fire. Ghost towns a plenty.

When you go to Vegas make sure you go to the famous seafood and lobster and snow crab leg and prime rib buffets. Just go to the fantastic buffets 😊

Do the San Diego Zoo. In Vegas, see the Bellagio fountain and go inside and see their Conservatory and Botanical Gardens. Also, go up the Stratosphere Tower. I saw a big comedy show when I went to Vegas, but the Cirque shows are popular too. You will be doing so much walking tthere, even getting to your hotel room from the check-in desk. I took the city bus along the Strip. You can get daily or weekly passes. Have an awesome trip!

As a Boston native:
1) I will say that Salem is an awesome take in during Halloween, but be warned, it's always crazy busy. So get there EARLY if you want to get any kind of decent parking. Also, if you go, make sure to hit up the "Pioneer Village" which is on the outskirts of the city, and a fun little take in if you've ever seen Hocus Pocus.

2) Some places to go in the city are the "Freedom Trail" in general, USS Constitution if its open, Castle Island in South Boston, The Boston Public Library in Copley Square (trust me it's amazing in there) Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts in general which is next to the Isabella, The Bell in Hand Tavern, the Paul Revere house. Any Restaurant in the North End.

3) if you have the time Plymouth Rock/ Plantation to the south or the Kangamangus Highway out of Lincoln New Hampshire to the North. Cape Cod is nice, but personally, I find it a little overrated.

Shaun if you like Halloween you are going to LOVE Salem! It'll be crowded but just GO. *Grand Canyon is breathtaking!* I guarantee you've never seen anything like it in your life! You'll never forget it! Fall is the perfect time to come! If you happen to come through Colorado give us a heads up with location. I get the feeling you love the States as much as I love Scotland. Have a great time exploring the desert regions!

Check out Antelope Canyon you will be amazed! They are slot canyons, this is on the Navajo reservation. You need to make reservations and it costs but you get a Navajo guide to take you through the canyon and they will point out where you can take the best photos.
