Honda Type 2 coolant is essential. I had my water pump and timing belt replaced in my Acura, the mechanic drained my coolant out in order to perform the work but put non manufacturers green stuff back in to my radiator which I thought wasn't big deal, 8 months later, one pipe in my coolant system started to leak. So, I went to dealership to flush out the green coolant and put the manufacturer blue one in, I observed the blue coolant coming out from the leaking spot starts to crystallize, and magically, the crystallized coolant actually stops the leak by itself, so I concluded not only the Type 2 anti freeze coolant inhibits corrosion, it also repairs minor leak. So, for Honda and Acura cars, I definitely recommend using the manufacturer's coolant.

I’ve got 90k miles on my 2018 accord. I just did a drain and fill on my radiator and the inside of my radiator was immaculate!!! I’ve only ever used Honda OEM coolant!

I always use the Honda stuff. Better safe than sorry and the extra expense isn't such a big deal since we aren't changing coolant very often.

I just did a drain and fill on my 2010 Honda Civic after 102, 000 miles and the old coolant wasn’t rusty at all just a little dirty. Replaced with the OEM stuff.

So glad that I came to you video before I went to Wal-Mart. I'm smelling auto freeze and wasn't sure if I had to use Honda's product or not. I never got the owners book with my used crv so I wasn't sure. I just called my local Honda dealer and it's $20. I will be glad to pay extra if it's gonna protect my system. Thanks for sharing this information.

Prestone is just fine any car?
Mixing coolants which aren't compatible, or using the wrong one for your car, can cause clogging and damage. Prestone is guaranteed for all cars and can be mixed with any other colour of coolant/antifreeze, making it the best choice for you.

its so refreshing to hear someone say "maybe, i dunno" and then make some fair arguments while still not claiming some absolute truth.

I think it was just a coincidence, I've always used just the regular green stuff and never had a problem with it . Of course I'd always recommend the oem stuff to customers but on a personal car..green stuff it is. That's just my opinion though ! 😁👍

At first I used to disagree with this, but now years later I realized that I would just use Honda Coolant for my Honda. These days are much easier with Amazon. I don't have a Honda dealer in my rural area, so I'd have to drive like 40+ miles just to buy coolant. Aftermarket is cheaper, but I would recommend everyone to just use OEM stuff.

All I know is our accord has perfectly clear radiator fluid 0 corrosion. And never had to add any fluid since I've owned it going on 4 years now. Now that I'm buying a new radiator cap in not gonna be a cheap ass litterally few dollars difference. All of my other vehicles that have regular fluid are all brown and crappy looking. That Honda is the only car I've ever owned that was that perfect and low maintenance for the radiator fluid!!!!

When I was in school back, in 1980, auto mech. They told us there were only 3 places that made antifreeze/coolant. Back then they told us it is all the same stuff. The only difference was the sticker that was on the jug, and how much it costed. Now everybody has there own special blend. You may be right and this is the best way to go. It will cost me over $40 just to change out the coolant that seems expensive.

You can't just use any generic. You need a Honda specific generic. There are 3 types of coolants.
1) Inorganic Acid Technology (IAT) - high silicates. 2) Organic Acid Technology (OAT, aka Dex-Cool) - NO SILICATES, 3): Hybrid Organic Acid Technology (HOAT, aka G O-5) - some silicates.
Make sure you get a OAT type. You CANT mix IAT, with OAT, with HOAT, but you CAN mix 2 different brands of OAT.

So if you want prestone, don't use Prestone All-Vehicles, use Prestone Asian BLUE. Asian green and red are made for Hyundai and Toyota etc. BLUE is made for Honda, Accura, Subaru.

I have used supertech coolant on 1 civic, 2 accords, 1 ranger, and currently a Jeep with no issues yet. Cross my fingers. These vehicles were all out of warranty.

Thanx for the info i was using the green stuff going to check into it.

Another factor is when people add a different brand of coolant to the coolant that is still in the system and they are not compatible. Before long they "gel" and start clogging thing up like heater cores ect ect

Correct, you'll virtually always be safe using the factory recommended coolant. But remember the first generation of Dexcool from GM? Was it mixing it with the green coolants of its day that caused the brown chemically impervious sludge in the cooling system, or something else? Anyway, to remove some of the mystery surrounding coolants we need to look at whether they are IAOT, OAT, or HOAT.

Last time I checked green is a different color then blue they make after market high quality ethylene glycol antifreeze containing silicate-free corrosion inhibitors and that's blue type 2

Two questions :1.) Can I use the Type 2 Honda Coolant Blue Color on a 2000 Honda Civic
2.) Does Honda sells the Green One?

I would not use Prestone All-Vehicles. It claims: Works with all fluid colours; All OAT, POAT, HOAT and IAT.
Instead, I would use Prestone Asian BLUE, which lists Honda as compatible. Green and red are for other Asian vehicle brands like Hyundai and Toyota, so if you want Prestone, make sure to use blue.

If you put in the wrong liquid. Drain that stuff out. You don't want to bust your engine over 40 bucks worth of liquid. If you can't do a full flush, top it off, then drain it again in a week. Then drain and fill it a 3rd time to make sure you got it all out.
