I like how Steve Jobs was so deadpan on the keynote like "heres something we made i guess"

I had this phone and actually really liked it. The 100 song limitation wasn't due to ram or any other hardware limitation. It was a software limitation imposed by Apple so that the phone wouldn't steal as much market share from the ipod.

You can almost see the point where Steve Jobs thought to himself ‘ this shit is the best they could do?’ You know he went straight off stage and told everyone to make the iPhone.

I had this phone and the speakers were BLOWING THE SHIT OUT OF IT! We had real small subwoofers there, so it was mindblowing. I think even iPhone doesn't have that much bass as this little dude. It was the best phone speaker-wise.

Man isn't it crazy that some phones had specific charging cables back in the day instead of one standard connector

Getting iTunes to work properly with this phone was a proper pain in the ass, and when it did it wouldn't do it consistently. I believe I used a 15 year old copy of itunes on Windows 10 for it.

I forgot how bad screens use to be. I’m happy we are living in the days that we have to genuinely fight over what a humans eye is capable of seeing because we are reaching that point.

I wonder if modern phones will ever be looked the same way we look at flip phones

I remember selling these back in the day. It was trash. Not because it was 2005 but because, at the time, Sony Ericsson were churning out incredible MP3 playing handsets. Even by today's standards, they were great. The W800i was in a completely different league. I got one for an ex girlfriend who messaged me in 2018 to say she had only just retired it :) That little W800i outlived our relationship by over a decade :)

On a related note, I recall being told by a Moto sales guy that the 100 songs limitation was actually a deliberate software bork from Apple who didn't want the Moto phone eating too much into shuffle/Nano sales.

The quote from the Motorola exec asking who listens to 1000 songs when criticising the Nano shows how much they underestimated the market.

Still have my "Japan's first answer to the iPhone", the Sharp IS03 (such a catchy name). Bit dinged up, but still working - the battery holds a charge like it's brand new. The screen even beat out the Retina Display in 2010, at 960 x 640 it looked _sharp._

You can tell that Steve Jobs was utterly embarrassed by this phone

Here in Brazil the Mini USB type B cable is still to this day called "V3" because of this phone.

A mate of mine had the ROKR. The best thing about it was the tight vibration tuning. it just felt futuristic.
Even today, you can feel the difference between a high end phone and a cheapy by the way they tune the vibration motor.

I loved this phone when it was new. There were all kinds of modding communities for it where you could crank up the speakers on the phone. It had great speakers for the time.

Another straight up banger as always. I've always been into vintage and obscure devices and accessories, and your channel helped me further that interest even more!

Motorola not only invented mobile phones, but also produced 68000 processors for old Macs and multiple game consoles like the Sega Mega Drive!

I love how dank always says “Can you believe no one bought this!?” even though someone clearly bought it otherwise he wouldn’t have had it 🤣

You can see the keyboard dirt on the screen😂 0:55
