nice video, but this information 2:40 is totally incorrect, the building was originally a mosque built in the 17th century, but was converted under French colonization to the Cathedral of St Philippe in 1845, then converted back to a mosque after the liberation in 1962

I believe the newly discovered ruins are Roman ruins. After Italy, Algeria is the second country with the most important Roman ruins. It is surely that in Algeria there is the Pompeii of Africa.

Hi I’m Algerian and live in Algiers I’ll give you some infos 😊:
Algiers oldest name is Icosium, a the city was ruled first by the great kingdom of Algeria, the Berber kingdom which was “ Numidia “ and who became Roman and Byzantine and vandals later in history
The city of Algiers than was established by “ buluggin ibn ziri “ who gave it the name “ jazair banu mazghanna “ in Arabic, and banu mazghanna are a Berber tribe who lived in Algiers, than the name was shortened to “ el jazair “ till today and the whole county took the same name of the capital . You need to know that Algerians in their native language they are called Dziri = Algerians and the name in Arabic goes back to the zirid dynasty, they just added a “D”😂, the zirides are the ones who created “ the casbah” that you’ve seen ( the old city ) than came the ottomans and built some mosques and castles taking inspiration from what was there before ( the ziride architecture, they also were the first to rule Grenada and built the albaicin another version of the Algerian casbah = Alcazaba after the ommeyade dynasty and it’s Algerian Berber origin tarik ibn ziyad who conquered Spain with the army of Muslims )
Algiers has many nicknames : the white because the “ old casbah “ people used to paint their houses in white, and it’s also called : the guarded one or the guarded by god because at one point in history all European kings guided by the Spanish king attacked Algiers (because at the time we were the strongest kingdom in the Mediterranean Sea nobody could pass without paying taxes )but suddenly a storm started and all their boats were destroyed 😂 people took it as a sign of god and apparently the king of Spain today never wears a crown because of this one ancestor who was shamed by his people for the defeat, and Algiers is also called “ Al bahja “ = the dazzling one
Kingdom of Algeria or Al jazair was part of the ottomans but at some point they split and only remained militarily and economically related ❤
The European buildings were built by Algerians who were forced to work just like slaves and with Algerian resources, there was 700 castles Andalusian style and beautiful houses that were destroyed and replaced by these European buildings that were created for the European settlers
The mosque you’ve seen far away is not in construction it’s finished months ago it’s called “ the great mosque “ it was built in a place called “ muhamadia “ comes from Muhammad, it replaced a church that was created by the French colonizers to forcefully convert Muslims to Christianity and start christianizing all Africa from that point and there was a whole tribe that was killed in there
And the pope’s name was Charles lavigerie and it is said that he went up through that hill and said “ where are you now Muhammad? “ proudly insulting the dead ones and Islam
So the mosque was created in honor of those who died and to give him an answer 😊 that we are here and we won’t be silenced

It's wrong ! The mosque has never been a synagogue. It was built by the Ottomans and its name is Ketchawa. During French colonization it was transformed into a church. In 1962 after independence it regained its original function as a mosque.

I love your honesty, it makes the good things that you say about the country seem genuine. Because most tourist say that its good just to be a good tourist, its hard to find a genuine opinion.

Mistake At 2:40, the mosque shown is called ketchawa mosque, it is not a synagogue.it was built in ottoman period, see the artchitecture, and was converted during the french colonization to a church. After Independence, it was converted again to its initial function, it means mosque.
