The advantage of a direct talk is that
1. There will be no excuse for miscommunication,
2. The agreement result is in real time. Whether the answer is Yes or an outright no.
3. The response to any outright agreement will be immediate too.

In short, if the talks ends in negative territory water then the bombing decisions can be decided straight off the table. Short and sharp. No more allowing the Hamas style dragging of feet, delays, and thumbing of noses.
