Fender American Ultra Strat vs Ibanez AT100

the neck pup in the AT holds the bottom end together better than the Strat, but the Strat has a bit more top end sparkle... so its a toss up for me. I would think the neck pup in the AT would be better suited for gain as well as it is less flabby.

Very similar. Fender has more silky tone and is slanky and brighter. Ibanez thicker and warmer. So close tho, I wonder if slight turning down of tone knob on fender would make them almost identical

i'm surprised how close they sound. i would own both if i could, different tools for different jobs! Overall I think I like the ultra bridge better. And the dynamics of the Ibanez neck pickup are kind of unique. Sounds like a humbucker until you dig in and it delivers a nice thump. The Fender neck was overall more dynamic and a bit more bright overall more like a single coil comparably.

I played on a clean amp a Fender Ultra, and was not impressed by the sound of the single coil pick up, but there was no big volume drop from the humbucker to the single coil.
Is that the same on the Ibanez AT100? Is there any big volume drop on clean sound between the singles and the hb? Thank you

The AT100 is less nasal but lacks the top-end sparkle in the neck pickup. Overall it's a more easy-listening Strat.
