This is what works for me; it's never let me down. I put a glass on the door handle, so if the methonites use their $10 under the door Amazon tool, it will break the glass, waking me up. But I'm a heavy sleeper, so I also cover the entryway with 1 1/2-inch furniture tacks. If by some miracle they are still coming in with 15 tacks in the bottom of their feet, they'll hit my trip wire, which is 200-pound test fishing line tied to the dresser and the corner of the bed. The landing spot is covered with more tacks and glue mouse traps. If they make it this far, they now have tacks in their feet and all over their hands, but they can't pull them out because they have glue traps stuck to their hands.

I travel for work and have also seen the peep hole in the door turned around. So people on the outside can see clearly into your room, I also take a small piece of toilet paper roll it up and plug that peep hole. Stay safe out there

Some commentators here are either scoffing at this motel security tip, or just trying to be funny, but at 70 years old, I can testify that there have been quite a few times in my life when some seemingly small, insignificant, irrelevant bit of knowledge, information or advice became suddenly very timely and useful, even lifesaving. In some situations I have been in. So, thanks guys, for sharing this and all you've learned thus far! Thanks for the tips. Here's one for you. Most people do know the purpose of that towel. It is a hand towel. It usually is somewhere near the sink, so you can dry your hands. You can ask for extras at the front desk and still have one for your wet hands and one for this security tip

Hey, great tip, thanks for sharing. I actually had someone come in my room while traveling in Europe as a teenager. I woke up and this man was staring at me. So, as an older adult now, i always am aware. And the tip is free and costs nothing, something one comes to appreciate🤩🥰.
