Train makes emergency stop for broken crossing gate.

Back in the late 1990s I would railfan at a four lane crossing that was a few blocks outside of our city, and it was a heavily traveled Road. If a train would sit waiting for rail traffic to clear anywhere close to it the signals would drop and remain flashing blocking traffic but the engineers couldn't see it because of a curve near lots of trees in a city park. I sometimes called the number on the blue plaque but trying to inform dispatch was like talking to a cat.😂😂

As a vetran engineer the DS would call us on the radio to inform us that a gate was broken at a certain crossing. We just whistled freely. Overtime the company had several other procedues put into place that are too lengthy to explain. No reason to place a train emergency unless this train had other issues. Emergency braking is reserved for real emergencies. Every time a train goes into emergency it increases the chances for a derailment.

Thats cool how they take the train and block the road so he can work on the crossing arm😂😂😂
