Tesla Model 3: Standard Range Plus OR Long Range

In this video Ryan and I help you choose whether to get the Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus or the Long Range Dual Motor All Wheel Drive. We go over some of the specs and features that are in each car while sharing our personal experience as owners of both models. Thanks for watching!

1. Facts to consider (1:09)
These are facts that are on Tesla's website but we go more in-depth by sharing our experiences with both the Standard Range and the Dual Motor Model 3.

2. Differences with interiors (2:50)
The SR+ and Dual Motor have similar looking interiors but, they are very different. The SR+ has a partial premium interior while the Dual Motor has a premium interior. The biggest differences is the SR+ does not use all the speakers like the Dual Motor, it also does not have fog lights (IDK why that's categorized under interior either but it is lol), you'll have to pay for rear heated seats, no HomeLink (garage opener), no floor mats, no ambient lights,

3. Factor to consider (6:15)
- Looks: both cars can look the same by purchasing the same wheels, interior color, etc.
- Environment: the SR+ is RWD while the Dual Motor is AWD. You'll want to consider this when driving in different clients like snow or mud.
- Handling: the difference in AWD vs RWD is interesting. Having the power in the front wheels as well as the back is quite a graceful feeling vs only having power in the back.

4. Return Policy (8:57)
Tesla offers a great return policy of 1,000 miles or 7 days after purchasing the car. However, this does come with some consequences. You will not be able to order the same model within 1 year after returning. For example, you buy a red standard range, you cannot return it to get a white standard range. You'll have to get a dual-motor etc...

Kinda glad you get more than "just" the bigger battery and dual motor AWD when moving up considering the steep price difference. I actually wasn't aware the standard range was missing all those other features usually not talked about.

I would add that AWD is also awesome in the rain. You can’t beat the traction that AWD gives you in the wet when pulling away from a light/stop sign.

I really feel like the only true difference that really matters is the battery size. All the other differences are really just "nice to have" but in no way worth the SR+ -> Long Range price difference.
Well, maybe the 4WD part makes a serious difference in snowy areas, but otherwise range is all that matters.

Audio and cabin lights are the biggest slap in the face. A $38K car and you can’t give me an extra speaker or some lights?! Crazy.

I got my 2020 Long Range Dual Motor for $5, 100 less from Tesla because it was returned by a guy who only put 143 miles on it. Pretty much a brand new car. Definitely ask a sales rep if they have any “used” cars in their inventory.

Drove a rear wheel drive through 40 winters. I don't need no stinking four wheel drive. We love or M3 SR+. Could not justify $10K for 60+ extra miles of range. The only thing we missed were the floor mats, so we bought some.
