Cesarean section may be of two types. It may be an emergency section wherein the patient is allowed to labor and then if the labor doesn’t progress, we do a Cesarean section as an emergency, but sometimes it can be a planned Cesarean section known as an elective, Cesarean section. This is done even before the patient sets into labor so it is done around 39 weeks of pregnancy and the causes may be in favor of delivering via a surgical procedure as compared to a normal birth. Why to plan a Cesarean section and not allow to labor? The causes may be fetal or concerning to the baby , where the baby may be too big. For the mother is pelvis or the baby may have some abnormalities like hydrocephalus. In some case the patient may be having multiple pregnancies like twins or triplets and the baby may be in an abnormal position such as breech where the leg may be there or it may be a transverse lie where the baby is cross and does not come out of the birth passage easily. In some cases it may be also maternal. The cause may be the mother may be suffering from severe hypertension or fits or convulsions in some cases and may not be in position to deliver normally and the mother may also have genitals herpes , which is an infective cause here lesions may cover the birth passage and delivery may take more risks for the baby than allowing for a Cesarean section . in some cases it also may be some surgeries on the uterus which may prevent the uterus form setting into labor such as fibroids of the uterus or a previous Cesarean section. So the uterus in these cases will be scarred and allowing a normal delivery will be risky to the mother and the child. There have been instances where woman want planned Cesarean section because they are not scared to go for a normal delivery or juts out of want of convenience. Cesarean section is a major surgical procedure and it is not without its own complications. The patient may bleed a lot and there may be difficulties in placental removal a s well. So it is better when you want to plan Cesarean section, it is better to know the pros and cons of such a procedure.

Hello ma'am, my age is 41, i conceived through IVF, now i am healthy and enjoying my pregnancy, but doctor suggested we will go for c section, though i am confident that i will be able to deliver normally like my first child, is it necessary to go for c section in IVF? Please note that my first baby came with normal conception and delivery.
