This was another one of those iconic girl groups from the early 60's. "Leader Of The Pack" was one of their biggest hits along with "Remember (Walking In The Sand)", "Give Him A Great Big Kiss", "I Can Never Go Home Anymore" etc. These were the simpler days of music.

My three favorite girl groups of the 60s are The Supremes, The Ronettes and The Shangri-las.

The Shangra-las covered some serious topics in their songs Mary Weiss put a lot of emotion in to her vocals!! Another good one is "I can never go home anymore"!!

I cannot believe you are doing a reaction video on one of the greatest girl groups of the 60's..."The Shangri-Las." These teenage girls were known as the "Bad Girls of Rock & Roll." They were a pair of sisters with Mary Weiss as the lead singer, and her sister Betty. And then you had the great backup vocal harmonies of the Ganser sisters Twins Margie and Marianne. They all were born and raised in Queens NYC.
This song "Remember [Walking in The Sand]" 1964. Feature 15-year-old Billy Joel on piano. He Billy Joel would go on to superstardom and become one of the greatest singer/songwriters in music history. They were also the group who toured with the "Beatles, " " The Rolling Stones" and "James Brown" the King of Soul. Note: James Brown thought they were a Black Girl Group when he heard them and to his surprised was stunned when they appeared in front of him...They stilled got to tour with the great James Brown "The King of Soul." They were also responsible for the new rock sound known as "Punk Rock." One of their session musicians was a man named Iggy Pop from the Punk Group "The Sex Pistols."
Their songs were considered Mini Operas and Novellas for their great story telling on youths gone awry. 👍👍👍😎
You definitely must go down the rabbit hole that is the Shangri-La's. Please react to their song "I Can Never Go Home Anymore." (1964). Awesome!

I know everyone wants to see you react to “Leader of The Pack”, but there’s a couple other tunes which are 🔥🔥🔥 like “Out in The Streets” and “Great Big Kiss”.. both are solid hits definitely worth a listen as well.

Torchy! The Shangri-Las were great. Gritty, intense, wall of sound, drums, bass, reverb soaked guitar, organ, violins, and always razor sharp vocals telling snappy stories about teenage heartache and more. Aerosmith turned me on to this song way back when they put their cover of it on the Greatest Hits album they dropped in 1980. When you're ready for more from The Shangri-Las, check out "Leader of the Pack", "Right Now And Not Later", "He Cried", and "I Can Never Go Home Anymore" along with many others, including a couple of top notch covers of "I'm Blue (The Gong Gong Song)" by The Ikettes and "Maybe" by The Chantels.

I had the pleasure of seeing this group when this was a hit. They also did "Leader Of The Pack". At the time I saw the great majority of girl groups live including The Ronettes, The Shirelles, The Marvelettes, The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, and more. Great days man.

I'm loving how you're diving into the girl groups, even if it is partially as a result of dear Ronnie Spector's death. Keep 'em coming!

That was wonderful! I have heard the song before but I have never seen the video or listened that closely to the lyrics. What an empowering song. These girls were so talented. It makes me want to go and explore more Shangri las songs. It's amazing how a song can be just as relevant today as it was then. The song has such raw and honest emotion. Really enjoyed it!

One of THE most iconic girl group songs of all time, and to me was far better than their most famous song "Leader Of The Pack". But what a song this is - pure class, and songwriter/producer Shadow Morton knew how to craft a classic

One of my top favourite songs from the 1960s... it had that mysterious 'something' that gives you goose-bumps even just from the atmosphere created - some sort of alchemy of lyrics, heartfelt, fabulous lead singing and backing vocals, together with a great, totally original arrangement. Love the seagulls effect.... I remember how it fired my 12-or13-year-old imagination!
You'll love Leader of the Pack by the S-Ls too - another heart-breaking tale of teenage romance gone wrong...
Yes, you said their name perfectly. 'Shangri-La' was a fictitious/legendary place, a sort of earthly paradise. I'm not sure where the term originated. Worthy of such a great girl group, who get overlooked too often, IMO. :-)

This song broke the rules of rock and roll at the time. Groundbreaking.
