“Why do we have *insert random Japanese cultural practice* ?”

“During the Edo period….”

This is also true for men's tuxedos/suit jackets in the west. Inside the designer can put in a flashy inlay on the inside of the jacket for when you open it people can see the artist expression but the outside is a solid plain color or a textured pattern.

Obviously attitudes towards smart casual and formal and informal wear has changed over the years and now we see flashy suits with patterns and even flannel designs on the outside of the jacket.

Fashion changes with the times, the traditional style will always be preserved but the fashion business likes to keep creating and breaking social norms and traditions.

I bought my first kimono, yukata and haori jacket last week in itō. Lady in the shop told me that I can wear the haori inside out to show the nice painting. So it's like a 2 in 1 costume.

whether the flashy patterns and designs are on the inside or on the outsidee, both kinds of kimono are interesting to me!

Sumptuary laws, their reasons, and how they were enforced, are fascinating. From limits to shoe toe length to pictures on cloth.

I LOOOOVE THE MODERN INTERPRETATION FOR KIMONOs. Wazigen Shizukuya is one that I truly love when making flashy but subtle male kimonos.

I love seeing men in fun patterns and colors in general since I feel like men are usually very limited in many areas of the world. Happy you also enjoy wearing fun kimono!

You learn something new every day, didn’t know the last era of the samurai was in the 1800’s

I dig the minimalist and muted colors, so your style is awesome.

I might want a men's kimono, the modern and hidden flashy ones all look great!

Plays well with human perceptual expectations. The pleasant inside in contrast to simple exterior, makes it feel even more special and for limited viewing

I really like the style of the kimono you wear in this video. Dark red is also my favorite color. 😁

I'd go with whichever I feel like that day (though go traditional for events, gotta look snappy). Btw, there's a a heartbreakingly beautiful episode about a painted haori in Mushishi (it's Mushishi, EVERY episode is heartbreakingly beautiful), which is where I first learned of the practice.

I like both Versions: the Traditional with Colorful Designs on the inside, and the Newer Style to put them on the outside! Are there Men's Kimonos that have it Both on the inside and the I would LOVE to see ones like
