In this video, I will be explaining how there may be numerous connections between racism and mental health (the impacts of racism).

As a result of racism, about 25% of adults suffer from mental health issues because they are frequently mistreated and viewed in a negative light based on their race.

But what exactly is racism and how does it impact an individual’s mental health?

Racism is a group of beliefs that one race or ethnicity is superior to others, and it is used to justify discrimination. It is often seen in the act of treating someone unfairly because of their race due to the belief that one's race or skin color is better than another's.

Stereotyping is another factor that contributes to racism. This is when someone makes assumptions about how another person will act or behave based on the social group to which they belong, such as race. Stereotypes are negative because they can lead to prejudice and systemic racism.

These biases include racial stereotypes regarding white people, black people, or members of any other race, gender stereotypes, and other stereotypes based on attributes that people cannot change. People of color are much more likely to encounter negative life situations like abuse, imprisonment, unemployment, and poverty.
