It's Beezus' birthday and what could possibly go right when your younger sister is Ramona Quimby? First Ramona loads the cake batter Mother is preparing with all the eggs in the kitchen, not cracked and separated either, just whole with shells and all. So Mother has to go back to the store for more eggs. The second cake is started while Beezus reads Hansel and Gretel to Ramona who then decides to place a trail of crumbs on the living room rug. To distract her from this activity Beezus has her pretend she's Gretel instead. So Ramona obediently goes and puts her rubber doll Bendix head first in the cake baking in the oven. No one knows she's done this till the doll's dress begins to burn. The cake is finished. Beezuz has a meltdown and Ramona is sent back to her room where she spends most of her time when she's not causing problems.
Aunt Beatrice rescues the party by stopping at a bakery to buy a cake and the dinner and desert are saved. Beezus feels loathsome for not loving her sister, but is shocked to find once she's shared this bit of truth with the family, that Aunt Beatrice and Mother had similar problems when they were girls! The day ends with Beezus happily realizing it's okay to not always love her sister because someday she would always love her and laugh at how Ramona almost burned the house down and ruined two whole birthday cakes when she was little.
This concludes Beezus and Ramona by Beverly Cleary which first came out in 1955. It’s a classic story about children living in Oregon state at that time. I loved these books growing up and decided I’d start sharing them with you. I’ll read a chapter each day and I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
Ramona is a little girl who seems to always bother her older sister Beezus. This is a story that unveils how two children learn to work out their differences and get along with each other while sharing a room and having to spend a lot of time around each other. These family relationships develop important skills for dealing with others, communicating, negotiating, moderating, and also regulating emotions like jealousy, annoyance, anger, sadness, loneliness, and boredom. Even though much of the time, life can be a struggle, there is also a sweetness and happiness to figuring things out and being together.

bathroom? How will the Quimby’s go to the bathroom. What an utterly exasperatingly embarrassing predicament Ramona has created today!
