The Marvel comic character Venom was first introduced to comic fans in 1984, and over the years Venom has become a comic fan favorite. Venom’s prominence has led to two portrayals in Marvel movies with the most recent being played by Tom Hardy in 2018’s Venom. The ultimate anti-hero finally has a movie of its own and a sequel to the movie has been announced as well.

But as beloved as Venom is in pop culture today, there are some accepted truths about the sentient alien symbiote that are actually wrong. These are the false facts about Venom you thought were true.

What other Venom facts should've made this list?

Eddie Brock will always be my one and only Venom. I respect the others, but when I think venom, I think Eddie Brock.

The movie was based loosely on Lethal Protector and a twist to the story. Ultimate Spiderman PS2 video game did the same yet people weren't bothered by the fact that the symbiote was an inheritance of Peter Parker and Eddie Brock, not some alien lifeform. Eddie gets the suit, as the game refers to it as, and bonds with it to the point of having complete control it. The symbiote was created in the lab by Eddies' and Peters' fathers which was signed off to the Life Foundations Dr Drake. I guess so call "fans" overlooked that part of the video game reference within the movie (the whole Life Foundation taking the symbiote in). >_> The story how the suit or symbiote gets a hold of people varies from cartoons, comics and now a movie. The story arc is still there. The feel, look, persona, mind set of the character is there, but all of that doesn't matter to fanboys, because of how the character got the symbiote matters the most. >_<~ I rather have 2018 Venom over 2007 Venom any time. 2018 Venom looks, acts, feels, and sounds like the venom I grew up with. Not that screeching, mindless killer 2007 Venom.

Secret Wars is a separate story arc, but an interesting one to take note.

I always knew Venom didn't hate Parker fully. If he did, Parker would've been dead ages ago. Venom likes to play mind games with Parker They went far as to pick up and kidnap Parkers' parents and even broke into his house holding up Mary Jane and the baby as hostesses, but never kills them or hurt them... just scaring the living Be-Jesus out of them. The relationship between Venom and Spiderman are more like disgruntled couple than true enemies. In fact Venom would stop in mid-battle to save a kid from getting crushed due to the intense battle. So Venom isn't a total mindless killer wanting Spidey dead no matter what. They are an anti-hero after all. They have standards.

The movie referenced chocolate towards the end, after a few moments of venom biting heads off, so we all know that Venom has a thing with brains and that chocolate is an alternative to them. Eddie actually asks the symbiote towards the end what he wants for dinner and the symbiote answers tater tots with chocolate.

The movie had a lot of references to the character from Lethal Protector and other Venom comics, including Venom Inc, where we get an expansion of various symbiotes with their own unique abilities and powers.

A lot of the things mentioned I already knew... just didn't care, because I wanted to view the film as a different universe story telling of the character. The movie just went with a different take of Venom. A new universe of the character if you will and it pissed off a lot of fanboys. I have yet to meet any fangirl who hates it. Fangirls have a better sense that stories can be retold in various forms and still be true to the characters' looks, persona and intelligence, which the Spiderman 3 fail to deliver, not to mention that Tophers' Venom looks and acts more like Carnage. If Spiderman 3 made the Venom suit red I would accept Topher as Carnage, but never as Venom.

I thought Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars didn't take place on Earth 616, therefore it's not in the original continuity of the original Secret Wars...meaning Spiderman wore the black suit...first... technically? correct me if I'm wrong

Eh except for the instance that Venom is a evil villain which hasn't been true for years, this movie is mostly OK.

1.) Stupid move because they didn't know what to do with the character

2.) Seriously stupid amount of SERIOUSLY stupid retcons... hell Deadpool's being the alleged first host isn't even true anymore. Some Kree with a weird spelling of the name Venom.

3.) the Deadpool retcon itself is questionable at best due to being told from Deadpool's POV. Given Deadpool's insane delusional state he can be considered an unreliable narrator. Given that no one remembers or acknowledges his presence during SW, his claims are dubious at best. Personally I consider it one of his insane delusions.

4.) There's a VERY thin line between love and hate. Very often they can be the same thing.

5.) Knew that

6.) Knew that too.
