For the Z506's, they dont allow surround sound through optical, only through the 3 plugs. You can use the tritton AX PRO or the sharkoon 5.1 headset (they both have the same decoder box, I paid 130 shipped in AUS (the sharkoons), but they are valued at 115 here) to decode the optical signal to the 3 plugs for a true surround sound experience. I have it in my room and tested the setup with the tester on splinter cell conviction and it worked flawlessy
