Tips for rescuing a Phalaenopsis orchid using water culture. I’ve done this a few times 🤣 so I’m fairly confident in this information.

Even though you think it is boring to watch slow trimming, etc. I found it to be interesting and informative information that I need as a new orchid grower. Thank you.

Terrific video! Next one will be water culture.. You’ve made it so simple, thank you from a one year newbie—going through the mistakes checklist one by one. Finally getting a feel.. only because of generous people like you who share their hard won knowledge 💕

Woohoo! Finally. You have just told me everything I need to know. Most of my orchids do OK. A couple always look amazing and bloom well every year. However, some really struggle and now I get why. I'm going to tackle the sad specimens tomorrow. 😊

Instead of pots, I use 1 gallon zip-lock bags & I dampen a piece of papertowel, set the root on the paper towel, leaving the bag open for air to circulate. The bags also keep insects away. It is a shame how they sell the orchids with instructions on using ICE CUBES, there is no ice in rain forests, that way the orchid dies & you go buy more. Bad gimmick.

I have been looking for weeks for videos that had an expert who grows Orchids in water. Today I found you!!! Thank you for creating this lovely channel. I am looking forward to seeing your videos and learning from them. 💜

Thank you so much for sharing Danielle!! I have two small Phal Orchids, one with no roots at all, and they've struggled through bark and water culture, and I now have them in moss and they're literally sprouting roots.

I also just got a large Phal from my Mom that I want to save and so I'll be using your water culture tips for it. And I learned so much from you right now as far as "watering needs, leaf reserves and being able to have the stem touching the water to help rehydrate the Orchid", amazing tips!!❤🥰🙏🙏

Danielle,
Thanks so much for this video. You really made it clear about exactly what an orchid needs when rescuing it.
I grow only phals & only in bark. Have tried water culture several times before un successfully but now I know why. I didn’t understand what was going on with the orchid & I was NOT patient.
So now I am again motivated to attempt it once more with just one orchid. ( semi WC)
You are an excellent teacher. Thank you for this video.

Thank You so much. I was ready to pull my hair out. Then I went to repot my orchids and saw the plastic pot inside the ceramic pot with the water logged roots. I will start at cleaning the media off and working on reviving all 3 of my orchids. Very informative & well done. Not boring at all!

Thank you Danielle, this was so interesting and informative, I have followed your instructions with my phal and I think I am going down the root of watering the stem after having the plant now about three weeks she has no roots to speak of - so I have cleaned everything for a start this afternoon and will start twice a week the watering of the stem. Just had a break before I go back to the plant so I can see if I need to do anything more before I start the stem watering.

Margaret xx

Fantastic! I've been rehabilitating my orchids as I've managed to destroy the roots on nearly all of them. My sickest one is about 12 years old and I've been keeping it in water for about a month - I noticed this week that it has some " fluff " growing around one of the roots, so I was rinsing when the roots dried out. Will try your way so that the roots can dry out in between. Good news is that I have two new roots coming already. If she does well in water I'm tempted to keep this one as water culture.

💚💚💚 Fantastic Video 💚💚💚 This, also is what I experienced when I began growing 6 yrs ago. Oh, how I needed this video then. So happy you've shown this in detail for all the very newbies. When I began I grew in NZ moss. Omygosh! How horrible it was when I "always over watered" not knowing moss soaks up everything and becomes very soggy! They looked just like this orchid and some worse! 😳 I have learned later that with some rootless or near rootless Phals can rehabilitated by placing "healthy air root tips" in the water or media after making them pliable. They, then get their root system jumpstarted so much faster! It's amazing! I realize this wasn't possible with this one. (no healthy air roots) Thank you for this video. I'm sure it will save lots of lives. Sorry this is Soooo long.

Wow, the universe put your YouTube channel in my feed at just the right time!
I got two Phalaenopsis orchids for my birthday in the hospital this past September. A friend took them home for me and put them on the back porch (south facing) and they fried.
I have them in my kitchen in a window that gets bright but indirect light for most of the day. New leaves have grown but no flowers yet.
I’m looking forward to more of your posts!
