Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse (Saturn) Playthrough [English]

A playthrough of Sega's Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse as it appeared in the 1998 Sega Saturn title, Sega Ages: I Love Mickey Mouse.

The Saturn release didn't do anything to update the original, but the port is faithful to the point of being indistinguishable from the Genesis game. It runs smoothly, the controls are spot-on, and the FM music and sound effects are accurate - it's not at all wonky like Sega's later Genesis rereleases from the Dreamcast onward that relied on sub-par emulation.

I never knew this version existed. The original game on Genesis still has one of the best atmospheres that I’ve ever experienced in a video game. The box art for the game was incredible too.

The first level reminds me of Forest scene from Walt Disney's Hercules that wasn't released until 1997

This game reminds me of Ghosts N Goblins. In both games, it involves jumping from platform to platform, killing and avoiding enemies and fighting bosses at the end of each level. After defeating a boss, it drops something. In Ghosts N Goblins, it drops a key and in Castle of Illusion, it drops a gem. At the end of both games, you save a female character. In Ghosts N Goblins, you save a princess and in Castle of Illusion, you save Minnie Mouse.

Last stage is as if Mickey became Simon Belmont and went through Dracula's Castle. Suits of armor throwing projectiles, bats, skulls, smile bubbles, climbing a clock tower while the bats act like medusa heads, and Mizrabel's boss fight is a bit like Dracula's.
