How To Increase Your Internet Speed with Open DNS

Some ISP companies don't have the best DNS servers and changing them to a much more faster and stable DNS can speed up your internet browsing experience

OpenDNS
OpenDNS uses the following public IP addresses: 208.67.222.222 (primary) and 208.67.220.220.

OpenDNS also provides some IPv6 DNS support using 2620:0:ccc::2 and 2620:0:ccd::2.

Google Public DNS
Google Public DNS uses the following public IP addresses:

IPv4: 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
IPv6: 2001:4860:4860::8888 and 2001:4860:4860::8844

I suggest you use one of each Google free DNS and OpenDNS that way if either service is not available you have the second provider as your secondary DNS lookup provider. I did have a situation where I had no route to Google for a period of time where I used to work.

Hi, great vid. I see some people are saying it would be better to change the DNS on your router. Would you do a vid on how to do that please? thanks. Also, where do you get those desktop pics? Your doing a great job, keep it up.

Also can use Quad9 aka 9.9.9.9 for DNS they are rolling out more DNS servers this year. Changing DNS though will only speed lookups aka www.sitenamehere.com to its IP address aka 123.456.789.111 however if your ISP has provisioned your line for 5Mbps down you are not going to get 50Mbps speed. You may not even get your speed you are paying for.

You can enter the DNS numbers in your router configuration screen so that the router will use the new DNS for all lookups. By default all devices connecting to a router either via wifi or wired use the IP address of the router for the device's DNS. This means changing the DNS In the router will allow all the connected devices to use the same DNS.

Many thanks for all your invaluable videos on upkeep, repair and improving the performance of Windows. For example, I was able to reduce my Windows 10 boot time from something like 2 minutes 30 seconds to just 30 seconds by following the tips you had provided in one of your videos. However, I am sad to say that I was not able to increase my Internet speed even the least bit by following the tips you had given in your video on DNS servers. I have an optic cable Internet connection without any Wi Fi but a modem that connects directly to my laptop. Could this be the problem? Please see if you can help me to increase my Internet speed in any way for which, I would be much obliged to you. Many thanks once again. Incidentally, you might like to know that I live in India. Does the geographic area have anything to do with my failure to achieve increased Internet speed?
