I would not recommend synthetic oil for these older trucks. I bought the oil for my previous oil change and after my mechanic did the oil change, he mentioned to me that synthetic oil is much thinner than conventional oil. He warned me that it can leak because these older engines aren't designed for it. He was correct. My oil got pretty low and had to add a couple quarts. I've had the truck since it was brand new and in 16 years, i never had my oil go low using conventional oil. I also believe that the slight knocking that my engine developed was due to synthetic oil. I'm about to change oil today and going back to conventional. I will update but I am fully expecting the knocking noise to go away. Also...i have read comments elsewhere from people who said their engines were knocking after using synthetic oil. So don't use it guys! Not for these older engines.
