John Edwards was incredibly fast over 40m, the quickest in team GB - and that included Linford Christie and Colin Jackson.

Great video. Almost as stunning watching it in slo mo. You didn’t mention that he had about 15cm to spare on the take off board. So he actually jumped around 18.58!

Great analysis. He was awesome. Amazing how it's not been bettered.

Jonathan Edwards tricks a lot of people that see his outward appearance and think it must be pure technique for a guy who looked like a 30 year old accountant to do this, obviously people get that he's got a crazy leap but over the run up length Edwards was faster than almost all olympic level sprinters

He made 18m+ look easy, just so relaxed and in the zone. Thanks for this video. Glad I am an age group ahead of him or I would have to compete against him as a Master Athlete... I know he did an analysis of his own but to look at it with different eyes, you see it in a different light.

Good vid. It's a work of art that jump.

His 18.43 (wind +2.4) was the best ever. But there has never been a better technical jumper than Edwards. Someone will break his WR one day but it will be a very long time before someone matches his artistry. It’s like Coe’s 800m record from 1981.

Good analysis. He even picked up the only flaw in the jump, although Edwards recovered from that slight break in his hips to get back into a good landing position.

Just had a pr two days ago in my third meet this season . 22 ft 5.5inch I’m a sophomore in high school you think I can go to college for long jump?

Edwards, here, also had possibly 5 or 6 centimetres to comfortably spare on the board.

Shame he didnt win the Olympics in 96 (from a British perspective) but it was a great jump by Harrison to win

Not losing momentum through the step phase is key. Technically brilliant.

Also he has this magical leg wobble on the 2nd jump, its like he is literally flapping wings. Never seen anyone else do it.

That was a great The construction of Jonathan Edwards 18.43 jump . But if you remember he and his coach reconstruct his jumping from I think back right before he broke the world record right that he glass to Kennedy Harrison. But I love your deconstruction of his jump. Looking forward to more videos thank you.

He nearly jumped in the pit and nearly went out of the back of it!

Such a shame that the +2.4 wind was just over the legal limit. In reality what real difference would that have made? Maybe 1 or 2 cm at absolute most. Rules are rules sadly. He also had a fair amount of take off board still available to him to have maybe jumped even further.

I think he left 10 or 15 cm on the board! Why don't you anslize that too.
I think this Is a 18.55 m Jump.
He Is pure perfection.

I remember watching him through most of his career, wondering every time if his step phase would end in the sand. He was always so close to running out of track.
