⁣⁣
✅ Overview⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Cerebellum translates to Little Brain! It is found in the back of the brain, right below our occipital and temporal lobes, tucked within the posterior cranial fossa. The lobes are separated by the cerebellum by a ‘tent’ of tough dura mater known as Tentorium cerebelli! Cerebellum is known for its important role in motor control: precision, timing of movements, coordination, and also motor learning.
⁣⁣
✅ Venous Drainage⁣⁣
⁣⁣
There are two main veins responsible for venous drainage of the cerebellum. The superior cerebellar veins and the inferior cerebellar veins.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
*Superior cerebellar veins: pass partly forward and medial, across the superior vermis, to drain into the straight sinus and the internal cerebral veins, partly lateral to the transverse and superior petrosal sinuses.
⁣⁣
*Inferior cerebellar veins are of large size and drain into the transverse, superior petrosal, and occipital sinuses.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
✅ Learn Extra⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Confluence of Sinuses: connecting point of the superior sagittal sinus, straight sinus & occipital sinus. Blood from here drains into the right and left transverse sinuses.
⁣⁣
Sigmoid Sinus: This vein passes inferiorly and medially on the groove of mastoid process of the temporal bone. It then passes forward towards the jugular foramen. Sigmoid sinus is a continuation of the transverse sinuses, and drains into the internal jugular veins.
