As someone who actually works for an airline, the first 4 tips are completely true. However you probably won't get an upgrade on tip 3. Asking won't get it, they will give it loyalty program members and employees, being nice is a great idea because your trip will be more pleasant. Getting their early won't help. Tip number 7, US airlines especially, block a few rows of seats and do not assign them to allow family's to sit together, so you won't be moved because little Billy wants to sit next to his mommy. Now business class sales do occur, but you still will pay for it, more then you may think. Now tip 9, yes there are 2 for 1 sales but those are for main cabin. Now tip 10 is not going to work at all. This is an FAA rule that the seat must be held by the name of the person on the ticket. While you may want to have extra room that mean the airlines are going to allow it. They will sell that seat and you won't be able to get a refund. Because they look at it as the person didn't show up for the flight. As far as low budget, you will pay cheaper but most of the time you will get nickel and dime and pay more in the long run or you fly into an airport and it will be tough to get a connecting flight.

I have yet to be upgraded, so it may be something to try in the future!

We’d be surprised if buying an extra seat would work but as a couple it would be kinda nice. There should be an option/requirement for huge people to do just that so they aren’t flooding into someone else’s space. Which airline has the narrowest seats on long haul flights?

@BenDreamVacations -- I have not yet been "upgraded". I'm not a frequent flier. When I do fly, it's to see my family in Germany.

However, the info you presented in this video will be helpful should an upgrade opportunity present itself. Thank you!
