The White House has ordered all US federal agencies to remove the TikTok app from all government devices within 30 days. The administration’s Office of Management and Budget issued the order on February 27, 2023, one day before a vote on a bill that would give President Joe Biden the power to ban TikTok nationwide. China described the ban to be “abusing state power to suppress foreign companies”. The Chinese-owned social media app has faced increasing scrutiny in Washington because of national security concerns. The White House and some other US government agencies including the Department of Defence had already restricted or banned its use on official devices.

1) You should NEVER have personal apps on
employer devices.
Read the employment contract: whatever is
on their devices is only for the benefit of
the enterprise and belongs to the enterprise.
2) Privacy? Everyone is watching all the time
and will still your information if you don't
give it up willingly: hackers, governments and
businesses.
Implement all apps/procedures to protect
yourself.

I think the issue with social media is that young people are easily influenced, and parents at home either don't care or out of touch with what their kids are consuming and do not provide proper education on how to think critically. Thus, the algorithm take over and bring the users to the rabbit hole of contents.

I have decreased all my social media to YouTube. I only go on Facebook for family, spending no more than 10 minutes a day. Same with Instagram. YouTube is really hard for me to decrease, I still sometimes watch it for almost 4 hours a day. I got rid of TikTok a LONG time ago. I just hope I can decrease my device usage to less than an hour a day outside of school.

China bans all sorts of foreign apps and companies into their country, it’s only fair to say that they shouldn’t cry about their own app being restricted.

Why don't the US order Google and Apple to disable that app instead? The app is already in the store, and the right of people who want to download it depends on them. I don't know if the phone is used by the Gov, but maybe it has its own serial. But people like us always find any way to install that App.

This nothing new. They said government device not personal devices. This means that Government issued phones and tablets had TikTok installed on them 😒. Company or Government devices should not have any applications for personal social media on them. They said nothing about personal devices. All they recommend is not sharing personal or confidential information on them.

It doesn’t apply to me as I don’t like to lose brain cells.
